INTRODUCTION
 A solar tracking system can be used as a power generating
method from sun light.
 This tracking system play important role for power
generation by setting the equipment to get maximum
intensity sunlight automatically.
 When there is decrease in intensity of light , this system
automatically changes its directional to gets maximum
intensity of light

What is a solar tracker ?
 A solar tracker is a device that track of the sun. it follows
the path of sun through out daytime with the help of sensors
 The sun position in the sky changes with the time and
altitude angle and azimuth angle various continuously ,
 Solar tracker are used for solar panels in solar power plants
where energy generation is describable up to maximum limit

TYPES OF SOLAR TRACKER
 Solar tracking system is classified by its degree of
rotation. According to degrees of rotation trackers can be
grouped in two primary categories.
 Single Axis Solar Tracker
 Dual Axis Solar Tracker

Single Axis Tracker
 A single axis solar tracker follows the movements of sun
either horizontally or vertically. This type of tracker has
only one axis for rotation
 The horizontal type solar tracker is used in tropical
regions where the sun gets very high at noon , but the day
are short. On the other hand
 The vertically type solar tracker is used In areas with high
altitude where the sun does not get very high , but
summer days can be very long
 In concentrated solar power application single axis solar
tracker are used with parabolic and linear fresnel mirror
designs

DUAL AXIS SOLAR TRACKER
 A dual axis solar tracker has two degrees of rotation . It
can track sun both horizontal and vertical
 This type of solar tracker can be used any where in the
world and achive maximum efficiency in gaining solar
energy
 Concentrated solar power application using dual axis
tracking is extremely important in solar power tower
application
 Design for dual axis tracking system is complex than single
axis tracking and operation is more energy consuming

Need for a sun tracking system
 Global warming has increased the demand and request
for green produced by renewal sources as solar power.
 Solar energy has been the power supply of choice for
industrial application where power is required at remote
location.
 Solar tracking is increases applied as a effective power
generation.

Condition for maximum output
 The difference between the incident ray and reflected ray
should be equal to zero, i.e the ray should be
perpendicular to each other
 The altitude is directly proportional to the efficiency of
the system up to the certain limit
 Very clear sky and clean atmosphere contributes a bit
more to the efficiency of the system.

Working Of Solar Tracker
 There are two different driver that dictate the motion of
the tracker :passive and active.
 Passive trackers depend solely on solar heat to guide and
move the tracker .
 Active tracker used a controller that monitors the position
of the sun movements in order to direct motors that’s
moves the tracker
 In most solar trackers LDRs are used as sensor ,there
different in output is generat error signal. In these

The Input
 The various positions of the sun over a year for a
particular geographical location is given as the primary
input to the microcontroller.
 The irradiance of the sun for a particular geographical
location over a year is the input of microcontroller
 The real time clocking is enabled in the microcontroller

Advantage
 Solar tracking system continually orient photovoltaic panels towards the sun
and can maximize your investment in your pv system
 One time investment, which provided maximum efficiency and provided
flexibility on dependency over other sources.
 Bulk implementation of tracking system help reduced consumption of power
by other sources.
 Tracking system can help reducing emission and can contribute against
warming
 It enhances the clean and emission free power production

Disadvantage
 Initial investment is high on solar panel , motor and any
other devices .
 Moving parts and gears which will require regular
maintenance.
 May require or repair or replacement of broken parts over
a long run.

 Can be used for small & medium scale power generation .
 For power generation at remote places where power lines
are not assessable
 For domestic backup power system.

 On one hand we can see the worlds energy resources
depletion to be a major problem
 On the other hand global warming , which is major
concern .
 Switching to solar power , which is clean and green and
enchancing its efficiency by using sun tracker is a great
option in the near future.
