- 1. Matt Tucker Car Detailing Product : A fully detailed car, and an instructional video on how to detail cars. Research Paper : What is needed and the process to be a car detailer. Ms. Crawley - 3 rd Period
- 2. 1) Describe what you are proposing to do for your Product step-by-step and in detail. I intend to learn how to detail a car. This includes waxing the exterior, buffing out the scratches, shampooing the vehicle’s upholstery and carpet, engine cleaning, shining the car, cleaning the chrome, clay barring the outside, removing any tar and bugs, removing swirls from the paint, and steam cleaning the inside, and any other form of detailing that may be applicable for this project. The first thing to do is find a location that has a materials and tools needed to do this task. Then, I need to get the materials needed. Next, I need to find a car to detail, and it will most likely be my own car. I will have a project facilitator who is in the profession to watch over me and make sure I don't mess up. After I learn what is needed I will make a “How To” video on how to detail cars, showing how to do each type of detail step by step.
- 3. 2) What is your previous experience in this area of study? I have washed cars before, but never done car detailing.
- 4. 3) How is this Product a “learning stretch” and challenge for you? I have never detailed a car before. With all the responsibility on me not to mess up, I will have an enormous amount of pressure to complete my project, not to mess up, and come out with a complete and quality product, because there are many ways to mess up.
- 5. 4) How long do you expect it to take you to complete your Product ? I will get this done as soon as possible, possibly by January. It depends on how long it takes me to gain the needed knowledge and skills needed to perform the detailing process without messing up. Once I get all the footage I will edit the video together to make a quality how-to video.
- 6. 5) When and where will you work on your Product ? I will work on my project everyday. I will also put in enough work to learn what is needed, before I detail the car, so I do not mess up anything. I will do this at a detail shop, with a professional detailer.
- 7. 6) What are your estimated costs for completing the Product , and how will you fund these costs? The estimated costs should be at a minimum if I can find a place that will supply the materials, if not it shouldn't cost more than $50. I will fund these costs with my own money.
- 8. 7) Whom have you chosen as your Project Facilitator ? Ron Stonecipher, my boss. I could also choose Justin Moore, the manager of the detail department at my job.
- 9. 8) What is this person’s expertise in this field? This person is the General Manager of the car wash I work at, and he has been in the business for years, and has a lot of experience in both the finishing, managing and detailing departments of the car wash.
- 10. 9) What steps will you need to take before you begin work on your Product? The first step is to make sure my boss is okay with being my project facilitator. Next, I need to find out where I can do the car detailing. I need to figure out the costs, and schedule a time to do the detailing. I will need to gather the funds, and then detail the car. Then I need to get a video camera and start to film and edit footage for the video.
- 11. 10) What concepts, skills, knowledge, and/or career goals do you hope to attain upon completion of your Product ? I hope to attain the knowledge and skills to become a profession car detailers. This could help me in the future because it is a fun way to make money, and is one of those things that you want to do because you enjoy your car. Not everyone can do this because it is a challenging process because if you mess up you could mess a car up very badly. It takes a very detailed-oriented person to do this job. This product involves peoples possessions which means if you do this you will have to be very cautious. This will show me how careful I can be and know how well I can focus on things and get a huge job accomplished quickly and well.
- 12. 11) How will you demonstrate your Product for Presentation at Senior Boards ? My presentation will include pictures of the fully detailed car, also it will include facts and information about car detailing, included the different types of details, the products needed, and the steps needed to do these various details, and also the average prices that they run at, and why there are at that price. I will also compile this information in a How To video on how to detail cars. The presentation will include pictures of before, during, and after the detail is finished. As well as a video.
