Communicating Online In this session we will explore how we communicate online: Communication tools What they are and their characteristics Teacher’s role Discuss some specific examples Look at some useful tips to help you communicate more effectively

Teacher’s Role Respond promptly, within specified time lines Clear and concise Friendly tone Address anxiety and problems Revise and refine instructions Ensure accuracy of information Encourage and foster community building
Online Discussions Ning Forum First postings were made within 2 hours  7 postings in first week (10 in total) Lynn responded to all initial postings 3 responded to my response 2 responded to others 1 mentioned considering the tone of the reply

Email Use distinctive subject headings  Consider breaking up large emails into two Formatting in the body of the email eg headings, bold Dot points Weekly email schedule/regular email updates Prewrite then modify for individual needs FAQs
Elluminate Include interactive activities Encourage participation Give everyone a turn Ensure technology is working Good instructions to login Record for later viewing
