What is cognition?
• Cognition means mental processes or actions of acquiring knowledge
and understanding through experience and the senses.
Cognition means

• As per cognitive framework of OB, before the behaviour of person
cognition starts and giving inputs to the thinking perception and
problem and problem solving of the person.

Cognitive framework consists of
• Personality
• Satisfaction, satisfaction and absenteeism model
• Attraction-selection-attrition model

Personality
• It refers to the dynamic growth and development of the person’s as a
whole psychological system.
• Personality is sum total of the ways in which a individual reacts to
and interacts with others. It is most often describes in terms of
measurable traits person exhibits.

Personality determinants
• Individual personality was considered as a result of following:-
• Heredity
• Environment
• Situations

Heredity
• It refers to those factors
which are determined at
conception of a human
being.
• Physical structure, facial
attractiveness, gender,
temperament, muscle
composition and
reflexes, energy levels
and biological rhythms
are characteristics.

Environment
• Among the factors which exert
pressure on our personality, culture
also is an important in formation of
our personality.
• The norms among our family,
friends and social groups result in
our conditioning.
• North Americans: aggressive,
industrious, competitive,
independent.
• It results in aggressiveness and
ambitious in comparison with other
cultures.

Situation
• It influences effect of heredity and
environment
• Individuals personality change according
to the situation.
• Situations like going to temple, job
interview, may affect behaviour and
normal characteristics.

Personality traits
• The characteristics like shyness, aggression, submissive, lazy,
ambitious, loyalty and timidness when exhibited in a large number of
situations are called personality traits.
• Why attention has been paid???
• Help in employee selection
• Matching people to jobs
• Guidance in career development
