1) Please list 3 insights that you have noted about your research
topic through this exercise.
a. The topic of research is how business objectives is critical
project performance. Some of the key areas are the
i. Identifying the consequences of project misalignment to
business objectives
ii. Quantifying Project performance (score card or KPI’s) to
outcomes that aligns with organization culture and strategy
iii. People skills and management directly impact project
performance and outcomes
2) Based on these preliminary searches, has the focus of your
research changed? In what way?
a. My preliminary searches around overall project performance
addressed the three areas of cost, schedule and quality impacts
and outcomes as key measure. Further refining the search
helped me to focus on the project performance and how critical
it tied to business strategy and culture. Identifying these will
provide better focus for project managers and agile coaches to
help organization delivery successful results. As organization
are moving towards agile delivery of business value to
customers this shit to measure the alignment and tracking
performance based on outcomes will help organization delivery
the right results. For example organization like Google and
Amazon that deliver product every two weeks that addresses
customer requirements.
3) Have you identified any gaps in the existing literature or
recommendations for future research? (These are often found in
the conclusion section of articles and research studies)
4) How does your proposed topic take a different/new approach
or add to the existing body of knowledge?
a. The proposed topic will provide an additional dimension or
area for project managers to evaluate the performance
challenges to support the dynamic changing customer needs and
help organization culture to evolve through training,
communication and championing to become and outcome-based
organization than documentation-based organization.

2. Using your proposed project management topic as refined in
your Topic Refinement Assignment and a scholarly research
tool, i.e., Google Scholar, HU Library locate four literature
reviews for your proposed GRAD695 topic. Literature Reviews
usually contain the terms “Literature Review” in the title. If
you have limited success, try to modify the keywords that you
are using for the search or contact the library for assistance.
3. Provide the name of the literature review and hyperlink to the
literature below. If using the HU Library, look for the
“Permalink” icon to provide the permanent URL address.
4. Read all four literature reviews and, for each, provide a 1
paragraph discussion (250 words) on the specific research
problem the researcher(s) have addressed. In addition, identify
and discuss the approach to the research (for example, surveys,
case studies, interviews, etc.) Often this information is
contained in the Abstract Section.
5. List any gaps in the literature and/or future opportunities in
research for a specific field discussed in the literature review.
What suggestions did each set of researchers make for future
research in this topic/field? This information is often found in
the Conclusion Section.
6. Discuss how you plan to incorporate this research into your
695 research paper and address any of these identified gaps.

Summary of Literature Review 1 (250 words):
This paper is focused on how project management impacts
outcomes and program performance. The key focus areas
addressed are:
· Creating clear strategies to identify the right projects
· Creating /Nominating Sponsor and buy in from management
and leadership
· Creating outcome-based business plan to detail the project life
cycle
· Concentrate on the early stages of the project, when the
decisions taken have a far-reaching effect on the outcome and
determine the risky parts;
· Focus on the benefits you are aiming to realize.
· Continue to monitor progress and ensure it is focused on the
goals of the program.
All these will help in paving the right way to measure outcomes
for the projects.
Gaps in Literature/ Future Research Ideas:
The ideas that are missing in this part of the review document is
how people & teams will adapt and get ready for the program
initiative. This is very critical for any project’s success.
Application to your GRAD 695 research:
The few key areas that will help with the research paper are the
challenges identified in the reviewed paper since they will
determine the success and failures of the projects

Summary of Literature Review 2 (250 words):
This review was focused on how to effectively create a way to
measure organization success when taking up various programs
or projects using scorecard & Key Performance Indicators (KPI)
across all paradigm the organization. Organization use score
cards to establish performance to organization strategy by
measuring quantifiable outcomes across the four areas
1. Financial performance
2. Customer knowledge
3. Internal business processes
4. Learning and growth
Some research used for creating this document indicates some
of the benefits for using score card are as below
· Helps organization to focus on key list of priority items to
meet high performance goals.
· Usually the KPI’s and score card will help to integrate all
departments within an organization as they create accountability
to each of them,
· Breaking down strategic measures to local unit levels so that
unit managers, operators, and employees can see what is
required at their level and how that will contribute to an
excellent performance overall. In practice this requires aligning
an organization strategy with the work that people do on a day-
to-day basis.
· Allowing relevant performance measurement that provides the
required impacts.
· Enables more open information flow across the organization.
· Provides simple steps to create the balance score cards
In addition, this review provided some insights into common
problems that occur when trying to create score cards which if
not addressed can provide inaccurate outcomes.
Gaps in Literature/ Future Research Ideas:
Key things that is missing is some strong case studies with
examples of score card along with when and where to use them.
Other ideas would be to give sample KPI’s categorized by the
types of initiatives to provide clearer understanding on how to
create them effectively
Application to your GRAD 695 research:
This part of the paper will help in addressing how to create the
right performance objectives across the organization for any
major initiatives to track progress and as required make course
correction and mitigate the risk of delays and missed outcomes.

service differentiation).
· Customer and continuous improvement focus.
· Use of self-managed work teams.
· Viewing the workplace as a source of added value.
· Clear links between training and development and
organizational objectives.
· Support for organizational and individual learning.
Gaps in Literature/ Future Research Ideas:
More case studies that support this will help to better
understand how to include the employee productivity as part of
Project performance.
Application to your GRAD 695 research:
This will be included as one of the dimensions of the problem
around now to improve or what are the key factors that should
be measured or evaluated to support Project Performance.
