Inter-dependent  tools  and  practices Dealing with  information  about learners/employees primarily the information they take responsibility for themselves useful or relevant to learning, education, training and to employment Which can be displayed as  presentations though may be less important in this project
E-portfolio information includes... Skills/competencies/abilities/qualities Evidence for individuals having skills etc. Plans for developing their skills etc. Personal reflections as integral to process Dialogue with or feedback from others Clear employment and learning overlap
Various tools and practices Special tools not essential: examples ...  Purpose-built e-portfolio and e-PDP tools HR systems: staff training and development Blogs and other generic tools ... and other systems may contribute Practice very diverse Paper as well as electronic Do people recognise that they deal with overlapping / related personal information?
What tools are we considering? Let us now briefly say what tools  deal with this information in our current practice are planned to deal with this or might do, if unsure Aim to get a reality check confirmation that we are on the same planet maybe if we are lucky, in the same ball-park?
6 steps for information systems Analytically, look at partner EE IS systems e-portfolio and other related systems Intelligently, put together what they do Creatively, think about better solutions Thoughtfully, refine vision – CRA team Consultatively, check with partners so we get plausible practical recommendations Technically, work out interoperability needs
Three e‑portfolio aspects ... that we find useful for understanding take these together for a broad picture informs analysis Purpose underlying practice & tool use Information dealt with and held entered by individual or from elsewhere Functionality offered by tools in using information, furthering purposes
Useful exercise (to start now) We have identified relevant tools: what purposes are yours intended to fulfil? what information do yours hold or deal with? what do your tools enable different kinds of user (person, manager, tutor, etc.) to do? What practices are associated with the use of the tools and systems, or without tools? Look at processes Link in to information flows
