Creating Basic
PowerPoints
Learning the Technology
What does a presentation need?

A chosen theme to use
 throughout the PowerPoint
A selection of screens to
 present information about a
 topic
Choosing the Appropriate Theme
 PowerPoint technology is known for its
ability to present information in intriguing
  and appealing ways.
 Yet, this technology is confusing to use. Its
features can be used effectively or abused
to be a flashy presentation which is
actually a failed use of the PowerPoint
  technology.
Steps to choose the appropriate theme
               Step 1
o If using Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2010,
click the word DESIGN in the top left had
    corner.
Steps to choose the appropriate theme
               Step 2
 Then, choose one of the chosen layouts.

 If the appropriate layout is not found, then

APPROPRIATE TEMPLATE USAGE
Choose the most
    appropriate
  template for the
presented scenario.
Scenario 1

You are asked to give a
presentation demonstrating
your PowerPoint abilities
about an interesting topic of
your choice.
Would this slide be appropriate?

Decide YES or NO.
If you thought YES…
 You are correct. This
    template shows your
    ability to use
    technology and still
    presents the
    information in a clear
    manner.
If you thought NO…
 You are not correct.
    This slide would be
    appropriate because
    this template shows
    your skills and
    presents information
    in a clear manner.
Would this slide be appropriate?

Decide YES or NO.
If you thought YES…
 You are not correct.
    This slide would not
    be appropriate
    because this template
    does not show your
    skills although it does
    present information in
    a clear manner.
If you thought NO…
 You are correct. This
    slide would not be
    appropriate because
    this template does not
    show your skills
    although it presents
    information in a clear
    manner.
Scenario 2

For your history final, you are
required to present the paper
you wrote using a
PowerPoint presentation.
Would this slide be appropriate?

Decide YES or NO.
If you thought YES…
 You are correct. This
    template would be
    acceptable for this
    type of presentation.
    This is a situation
    where content is
    much more important
    than visual appeal.
If you thought NO…
 You are not correct.
    This slide will be
    successful in
    presenting
    information. It is clear
    without distraction.
Would this slide be appropriate?

Decide YES or NO.
If you thought YES…
 You are not correct.
    Dark backgrounds
    make the information
hard to read. It is also
    hard to concentrate
    on textual information.
If you thought NO…
 You are correct. Dark
    backgrounds make
    the information hard
to read. It is also hard
    to concentrate on
    textual information.
Choosing the Appropriate Slide
 Once the appropriate template is
chosen, it is important to position your text
in the most appropriate place. This
requires you to choose the most
    appropriate layout.
Choosing the Appropriate Slide
           Step 1
 Click on the home tab.

 Then click on the arrow under the words
new slide. Doing this will allow you to see
all of the slide options available. Click on
  the most appropriate slide.
 If you don’t like the slide, delete it and
  choose again.
Conclusion
To create basic PowerPoint presentations,
 Chose the appropriate template for the
setting, the topic, and the audience.
 Decide on the appropriate slide layout and
    insert textual information.
 Remember to save as a PowerPoint
    presentation.
