Single Cell Protein (SCP) refers to the dried cells of microorganisms used as a protein source for human and animal consumption, with potential to address global food scarcity. Production of SCP is efficient, as it requires less land and is less affected by climatic factors compared to traditional agriculture, with various microorganisms utilized depending on available substrates. However, SCP has drawbacks, such as high nucleic acid content and potential indigestibility of microbial cell walls.
