Six Tips
for Better Mobile UX Design
By: Denis Riftin
#1 Onboarding
According to Andrew Chen research, on average, apps lose 77% of
their active users in the first 3 days after install. It means that if a
user doesn’t understand you App, you’ll lose majority of them
immediately after their very first visit.

#1 Onboarding
There are 4 types of onboarding:
1. Functional Oriented
2. Value Oriented
3. Conceptual Onboarding
4. Interactive Onboarding
Usually slides
PROBLEM: Your users
download the App
because they interested in
value that you product
promise, not in reading
about the App
Teach the users on the go
through they using the
App

Don’t hide your navigation behind “Hamburger”. Use “Tabs”, “Bottom
Menu”, ”Collapse menu”, ”Scroll Tabs”.

#3 Icons
When using icons in your
App, be sure that your
user understands the
meaning behind them. If
an icon isn’t clear to
users, it immediately
loses it practical value
and becomes a visual
noise – to avoid it, use
text to explain icon
meaning.
2017 2018
study found:
• For icons with labels, users were able to correctly predict what
would happen when they tapped the icon 88% of the times.
• For icons without labels, this number dropped to 60%.
• And for unlabeled icons that are unique to the app, users
correctly predicted what would happen when they tapped the
icon only 34% of the times.

#4 Empty states
Educate you user
through empty states.
Make a good first
impression, in your first
empty state - drive user
to action. Recommend
and show them the
single best way to get
started, make your user
want to fill that screens.

Conclusion
The most important thing when designing a mobile App is to
create useful and intuitive experience. If the app is not useful, it
has no value. If the app is useful but not intuitive users won’t
bother learning how to use it.
