Overarching Objectives
• Increased knowledge among participants of cross-regional
evidence on impacts of national cash transfer programs;
• What is out there and how can it help me?
• Identify gaps for further research that can help inform
design and policy dialogue;
• I still have some unanswered questions
• Increase communication and comraderie between
researchers/evaluators, and program managers and policy-
makers
• What king of evidence can I generate? How can I do it and who can
help me? Who is my hotline bling?
• Increase celebration of collective human spirit
• I want to have fun
What is unique about the Transfer
Project style workshop?
• Rigorous evaluation research meets program operations and
policy interests (supply = demand)
• Helps identify the important research questions
• Researchers do not know what these are, need guidance
• Helps interpreting evidence in light of implementation details
• Researchers not aware of implementation nuances
• Multidisciplinary
• Combination of creativity, rigor, frankness, fun, practice, and
unusual behaviour
“Unusual behavior”

What is unique about the Transfer
Project style workshop?
• Provides ideas to program managers on types of
evidence that can be generated with different methods
• RCT, qualitative study, LEWIE, analysis of administrative
records
• Safe space to discuss ‘controversial’ results
