Chapter 3
Electricity

Properties
• Volt
• Amp
• Ohm
• Watt
• AC (Alternating Current)
• DC (Direct Current)
• Rectifier – changes AC to DC
• Transformer – changes the ratio of
current to voltage
• Higher voltage with less current can
travel a longer distance.
• Computers use 3.3, 5, & 12 volts
• Diode – A single direction
semiconductor
• Transistor – an electronic gate that
can be on or off (contains 2 diodes)
• Capacitor – smoothes the flow of
electricity on a circuit
• Resistor – device that limits the
amount of current
ESD (Electro Static
Discharge)
• Difference in voltage between
objects.
• Voltages are equalized resulting in a
flow of electric current
• the shock from ESD might wound a
component. The component might
seem to work initially, but later it will
be unreliable
• The amount needed to hurt or
destroy components cannot even be
sensed by humans
