This document describes a project to create a smart remote control using a smartphone. The smart remote would replace conventional remotes for devices like a satellite receiver and DVD player. It would also enable electronic guest notification for home security and basic home automation controls. The smart remote system uses Bluetooth to connect a smartphone app to a microcontroller-based circuit board. The circuit board then sends infrared signals similar to conventional remotes and can detect motion with a PIR sensor. The goal is to integrate remote controls for multiple devices into a single smartphone app for simple and cost-effective home automation and security.

INTRODUCTION • Remote control is almost a standard accessory for most home applications, like TV, Hi- Fi, security system and so on. • This project aims to create a smart phone based remote control for all major electrical & electronics equipment. • This is a simple project based on smartphone consist of four major parts 1. Replacing conventional remote of satellite receiver & DVD player 2. Electronic gust notification for home security 3. Simple home automation within the building 4. - 4. ABSTRACT “SMART REMOTE” is combination of hardware and utility app, so that can integrate all our remote commands into one Android device. Bluetooth module is the 1st level communication medium that can talk with android panel & controller. In 2nd level of communication added an infrared emitter to that controller is capable of sending IR commands just like conventional remote. PIR sensor interrupt the controller when the presence of guest and will get a notification on Android panel. CONCLUSION • This is simple cost effective project that have multiple purposes. • This project can replace no. of remotes in to a single one. • It is more efficient than general purpose remote. • This project will enhance the home security. • This project is capable for home & small offices automation. • All the smart phone with Bluetooth connectivity is compatible for this project. • Smart fan speed regulator can also be implemented using this project. 05-02-2015ICET, ECE DEPT. 9
