CONTENTS
span of control
span of control means the number of subordinates
that can be managed effectively by a superior in an
organization. It suggests how the relations between a
superior and a subordinate in an organization.
span of control is of two types
1.> Narrow span of control
2.> Wide span of control
Narrow span of control :
narrow span of control means a single manager or
superior oversees few subordinates. This gives rise to a tall
organizational structure.
Wide span of control
Wide span of control means a single
manager or supervisor oversees a large number of
subordinates. This gives rise to a flat organizational
structure.
What is the purpose of planning
 To determine the direction of an organization
To provide a basis for team work
 To minimise wastage in the future
To facilitate decision making
To improve morale of the emloyees
Centralization & decentralization
Centralization and decentralization of
authority are basic, overall management philosophies
of an organization that indicate where decisions are
to be made.
What is the centralization
Centralization is the concentration of authority at the top
of an organization or deportment
It is the process of systematically of relating power and
authority in the hands of higher-level management
What is the decentrolization
Decentralization is the delegation of authority to lower
level of employee or deportment
 It is the process of systematically delegating power and
authority the organization to middle and lower –level
management
