6. First Principle of Speech Writing:
Choosing Topic.
The choice of topic may be up to the Speaker but,
more often than not, the Speaker is given the topic
because it is the central theme of a program,
conference or presentation.
7. Second Principle of Speech Writing:
Analyzing the Audience.
It is really necessary to know first who our
audience will be, It’s because if you don’t know
about your audience, how will you be able to write a
speech that is suited for your audience or listener?
8. Third Principle of Speech Writing:
Sourcing the Information
This involves seeking out all the available
means for finding materials to support the
Speech.
9. Fourth Principle of Speech Writing: Outlining and
Organizing the Speech Content.
To help achieve a logical flow of ideas, you must create an outline of your speech. It
helps in pointing out the material to be used. Furthermore, there are different kinds of
outline:
1.Chronological – historical/time approach (e.g. past-future).
2.Spatial/Geographical – going from one place to another.
3.Cause and Effect – involves discussion on the cause and effect of an issue.
4.Problem-Solution – explains a problem and suggests a solution.
5.Topical Outline – divides topics into subtopics based on importance or interest value.
6.Sentence Outline- A sentence outline contains a collection of entire sentences. Instead
of just defining a mini-topic, each phrase functions as a mini-thesis statement regarding
that mini-topic.
10. Purpose of Speech
• Informative speech - provides the audience with a clear
understanding of the concept or idea presented by the
speaker.
• Entertainment speech - provides the audience with
amusement.
• Persuasive speech - provides the audience with well-
argued ideas that can influence their own beliefs or
decisions.
