EDUCATION&RESEARCH
COMPUTINGALLIANCE
Furthering development
of advanced scientific
computing communication
and educational resources
among Florida’s universities
http://sserca.org
Funding for SSERCA activities
come from its member institutions,
contracts and grants, and industry.
Alliance Member Benefits
• Access to statewide research resources and
shared cyberinfrastructure
• Start-up investment savings
• Shared intellectual resources
• National and international meeting
participation
• Competitive research edge
• Support for statewide education and
research collaborations
• Joint organizational, information meetings
• Advanced training opportunities
• Public/
private
partnerships
Florida’s public and
private universities
are home to talented
scientists, high-end
computing facilities,
massive data storage
systems, highly
specialized research
instruments, and high-
speed networks.
The Sunshine State Education & Research
Computing Alliance (SSERCA) brings
together these geographically distributed
organizations and resources in such a way
that their collective impact is far greater
than the sum of their individual parts.
Individually, the high performance computing
centers at Florida’s universities are vital re-
sources for advanced research. Organized into a
statewide grid linked by software and advanced
networks (Florida Lambda Rail) these centers
acquire a potential for far greater discovery.
By combining their technological and intel-
lectual resources, SSERCA members are
helping Florida forge a leadership position in
economic development, industry-academia
cooperation, and future workforce creation.
Typical Research Areas
• Aerospace
• Aging
• Biomedical Engineering
• Climate Change
• Coastal Watersheds
• Community Health
• Cyber-infrastructure
• Family Medicine
• Geophysical Threats
• Medical Prostheses
• Neuroscience
• Smart Sensors
• Vector Borne Diseases
SSERCA members are engaged in a partner-
ship to develop a collaborative research
data infrastructure that
will enable researchers
within the state to work
efficiently on projects
involving large, multi TB
data sets.
