St. Nicholas was a real saint from Turkey who lived in the 3rd century AD. He was known for his generous giving, especially anonymously helping a poor man by throwing bags of gold into his house on three occasions to help dowry his daughters. This act of charity is believed to be the origin of the Christmas tradition of Santa Claus or Father Christmas bringing gifts. The document teaches that Santa Claus, Baba Noel, and St. Nicholas all refer to the same historical saint who set an example of generosity that is still celebrated today.
