Static charges in textile processing
Problem
During plaiting of fabric, high levels of electrostatic charges are generated due to changes in
temperature, contact and separation of rollers and fabric, atmospheric conditions, and
friction.
This can result in serious problems such as:
1. Unpleasant shocks to the operator; this may cause workers to recoil into other
objects/machine parts, leading to injuries
2. Reduced product quality due to dust or lint attraction
3. Fabric tangles are possible in the rubber roller of the J scray causing machine
stoppages
Solution
Using an efficient static eliminator is the key to neutralising static charges, and thus
eliminating such problems in processing fabric. As shown above, Valstat​®​
AC anti-static
bars can be installed on plaiters, J scray and batcher sections. Other applications of Valstat​®
bars in eliminating static problems and enabling smoother running of fabric include sizing,
singeing and desizing, bleaching, mercerising, dyeing, stenter, pre-shrinking, surface
finishing and inspection machines.
