Stative verbs cannot be used in the present progressive tense because they describe sensory experiences, opinions, emotions, and intellectual states rather than actions. Examples of stative verbs include hear, see, smell, taste, like, dislike, think, love, hate, need, want, know, understand, and believe. While "I am loving my family" is incorrect, "I love my family" is the proper way to use a stative verb.
