How To Make A CD Cover
This slide show will show a step-by-step
guide on how to create a professional CD
       cover using Photoshop CS4.

Slide Show Made By Tyrone.
The First Step:
                  The 1st step is very
                  simple. I needed to
                  start off by selecting:

                  File > New

The next thing that I needed to
                         do is select the measurement,
                         and select “inches” from the
                         drop down menu. The
                         measurements for a CD
                         inserts are “4.724 x 4.724”.

Next I needed to do was
                         select the “pixels/inch” option
                         from the drop down menu,
and type in “300”. This will
                         make the overall resolution of
                         the image, better and much
                         more crisp.
The Second Step:
To make our front cover, I started by
trying to make our CD to flow along
with the style of our website to
       create a house style.

Therefore I began with creating a
border around the frame. I done this
by selecting the rectangle tool. This
      was the final product.

The next thing to do was select the
shape in the “Layers”, and rasterize
it so that I could be able to work with
the shape, making it easier to
manipulate it and apply other objects
      to it. To do this:

Right Click Shape > Rasterize Layer
The Third Step:
I then wanted to insert text onto the Selecting the Move Tool, it allowed
cover. To do this I went to the text me to move the text around the
icon, selected it, then selected the canvas. And this will work for text,
area that I wished to insert the text. shapes, and images.

When you select the text option, the over head tiles change into these
options above. First I needed to change the text to white, to make sure that I
am able to see it, so I selected the Colour tool, and selected white. Next I
wanted to change the text Font, so I highlighted the text and selected an
appropriate text style. Then I needed to re-adjust the text Size. Again,
highlight the text and then select (or input) a desired sized font.
The Fourth Step:
I also wanted to insert an image into the canvas. All I had to do was just drag and drop the image
into to the canvas. This then put the image as a new .psd (Photoshop file). Then I wanted to only
have the character in the picture, so by selecting the lasso tool I was able to select the character.

The next step was to put the selected character
onto a separate layer. To do this:

Right Click Character > Layer via Cut

Then, to hide the layer, I went over to the layers
tab and by selecting (and deselecting) the eye
icon, it hides that selected layer. By doing this it
separated the character from the previous
image. To delete the other layers:

Right Click Layer (In layer tab) > Delete Layer

To this layer into the original document, select
the layer, and drag across into the other
document. This then will show up as its own
                                            layer.
The Fifth Step:
I wanted to then experiment and see what filters do with the image. So I went into the filter gallery
(with the image layer selected) and then played around with different layers until I found an
appropriate one for the CD cover.

Playing around with the different settings I was able to find an appropriate setting. Using the sliders
on the side, it allows you to change the settings of that specified filter, and also, selecting the
different folders will show different filters all with unique settings.
The Final Product:
This is the final edited version of the front CD cover. I included the logo, the name of the band, the
song name, and also moved the image around. To be able to create a final product, it involves a lot
of experimenting with different effects, styles, and also positioning.
