Build a knowledge base from PPAP and dramatically
shorten time and improve results to minimize risk
• PPAP Creation Time – Reduce 60%
• PPAP Reporting / Submission time – Reduce 90%
• PPAP Effectiveness – Improve 80%
Intended Audience

• You already know about PPAP
• You have experience trying to do PPAP with email and
spreadsheets OR another big system that is annoying,
cumbersome, and you want to go back to spreadsheets
• You may, or may not, require Supplier PPAP, but if you do,
that is even more cumbersome
PPAP being adopted across industries

• Aerospace adopts AS9145 and AS13004
• Food industry moving from ingredients certs to process
• AdvaMed publishes Supplier PPAP Guidance
• FMEAs almost everywhere!

Frustrations…

• We can’t because of ITAR, or FDA, or…
• We must do it this way; we have always done it this way…
• Just fill out the spreadsheet and send it in…
• Our customers tell us to use this form…
• Didn’t we already buy software that does this?

Form Feature to Pin Columns
The pin columns feature allows a user to temporarily freeze a
specific column(s) in place while freely scrolling through the rest of
the form. This feature is like the “freeze panes” option available in
spreadsheet applications and is available when viewing and editing

Marketing – protect the brand
High-profile recalls shine a powerful light on how damaging these
failures can be – not just potential injuries for consumers and
others at risk – but to the reputations of the companies
responsible for the products and the value of their brands

Finance – pay me now or pay me later
• They like numbers, they like audits
• They are critical for determining costs, ROI, etc.
• They can provide the information for internal business
support, not just external financial reports
• Start with failure costs
30@ Copyright 2020 John M. CachatMar 2, 2020
Engineering – provide the data
• Complete and accurate information, including lessons
learned from similar parts
• 3D versus 2D drawings
• Parts, and/or family of parts, drive the characteristics

Purchasing – define the supplier expectations
• Beyond standard terms and conditions
• Define the Supplier PPAP process
• Is PPAP a cost add or a cost savings?
• Does a good Supplier PPAP process justify higher prices?
Supplier PPAP Benefits to You
• Establishing confidence in
suppliers and their production
processes
• Allows companies to avoid the
use of unapproved parts from
the production line
• Makes it easier to detect issues
or defects early in the
production process, inevitably
reducing time and saving costs
Mar 2, 2020 @ Copyright 2020 John M. Cachat 34
Supplier PPAP Goals
• Hold the Supplier responsible for their ability to
produce parts that meet specifications
• Assure PPAP reviews are actual reviews
Mar 2, 2020 @ Copyright 2020 John M. Cachat 35
36@ Copyright 2020 John M. CachatMar 2, 2020
Operations – provide input and performance data
• The people that are making the
parts need to be involved
because they know a lot about a
lot
• Help with experience regarding:
• Severity
• Occurrence – error proofing
• Detection – this works better
•Connect receiving inspection
issues with PPAP review
37@ Copyright 2020 John M. CachatMar 2, 2020
Quality – compliance and continuous improvement
Is your Company at Risk?
• Find out NOW by performing a
cross functional internal audit
• Compare FMEA with warranty /
