However, many specific claims about mind mapping and brain functioning have been debunked or lack scientific evidence. In particular, the idea that mind maps directly mimic the structure and processes of human memory and thinking has been disproven by modern neuroscience. While mind mapping can be a useful organizational technique, its benefits are more pragmatic and less rooted in how the brain intrinsically functions. Why not 2 or 4? • Use images, symbols, codes, and dimensions throughout your mind map. • Select key words and print using upper or lower case letters. Only if you use the mind map to memorize information, for brainstorming or for creativity. Not to analyze complex problems, to communicate or archive complex information. • Each word/image is best alone and sitting on its own line. Why? • The lines should be connected, starting from the central image. The lines become thinner as they radiate out from the center. There is no need for broader and thinner lines. • Make the lines the same length as the word/image they support. • Use multiple colors throughout the mind map, for visual stimulation and also for encoding or grouping. • Develop your own personal style of mind mapping.
