STRUCTURE OF HORROR TRAILERS
OPENING = ESTABLISHES SETTING AND INTRODUCES CHARACTER
 The first thing we are introduced to is a woman who seems
scared and agitated. It is uncommon for a trailer to start this
way as no information is given about the character. On the
other hand as the short scene comes to and end we are
introduced to a young couple in a positive atmosphere which
contrast the first scene. They can be seen in their house
relaxing together which is a realistic and relatable scene.
 Overall, the trailer is net in the 21st century, this can be implied
as technology such as laptops and TV can bee seen in the
trailer. In addition, they are seen wearing modern cloths which
can be seen in the aeroplane scene which we can also see a
modern plane.
BUILD UP = RELATIONSHIPS ESTABLISHED; DEVELOPMENT OF CHARACTERS AND THEIR WORLD.
• The first relationship we are introduced to is the one of a
young man and lady. They both share an interest towards the
video which kills you in 7 days because of this, their
relationship is very significant as its because of this the
tragedies unfold around her. This is because she watched the
video meaning she awoke and evil force.
• One thing we can imply about their world is that they are
both educated. The audience may be able to tell this as the
man seems to be educated about this topic. This is
demonstrated through a voiceover as he retells what happen
in each of the 7 days whilst his partner suffers through them.
PROBLEM = DILEMMA OR SERIES OF COMPLICATIONS : CHARACTERS FACED WITH AND OBSTACLE
TO OVERCOME.
 The first problem the protagonist faces in the trailer is the burning of the phone which she knew would
be the first thing that would happen when the video ended. The burn which is seen below translates to
rebirth.
 Overall, the biggest obstacle she faces through out the whole trailer is trying to survive the 7 days which
means breaking the tradition of the deaths. While trying to overcome this other problems arise such as
having to endure immense pain such as pulling hair our of her throat which is a part of the torture of the
7 days.
EVENTS = SERIES OF EVENTS CHARACTERS TRY TO OVERCOME. FURTHER OBSTACLES MAY ARISE IN
THE PROCESS.
 As seen in the last slide the obstacle she is trying to
overcome is death.
 In conclusion, the last problem that arises in the trailer is
the fact that the lady opened up a door meaning no one is
safe. This scene is then moved to a plane meaning the
innocent people inside are in danger. We can imply that
the same path will happen to them as the video comes
onto the screen forcing the passengers to watch it giving
them 7 days to live. In addition, the last seconds of the
trailer shows the horror the passengers are going through
which engages the audience, however, we are not shown
the ending of these events which makes the audience want
to watch the movie.
