The document summarizes a study on the effect of forging on cutting tool properties. D-series tool steels (D1, D2, D3, D4) were selected as the raw material. The steels were subjected to forging and heat treatment processes. Tests were conducted to evaluate the hardness, wear resistance and forces experienced during turning operations. Results showed that forged and heat treated D2 tool steel exhibited the highest hardness and lowest wear rate. During turning, heat treated tools performed better than forged and heat treated tools in terms of forces. The forged and heat treated D2 tool steel demonstrated improved properties suitable for cutting applications.
