This presentation discusses weft patterning mechanisms. Weft patterning is a textile technique where patterns are formed using more than one weft strand. There are two types of weft patterning: continuous wefts that run edge to edge and discontinuous wefts that only run in small areas for the design. On shuttleless looms, the weft packages are mounted stationary and individual wefts are fed to the carrier during picking. To change weft color, only the small weft feeder needs to be moved. Pictures demonstrate methods of setting up patterns using supplementary wefts wrapped around pattern warps. In conclusion, current weft patterning mechanisms allow for specialized designs and fashionable fabrics.
