- 2. This question was important because I wanted to see what the most popular soap opera was. From the question I can see that the most popular soap opera was a tie between Hollyoaks and Eastenders as they got 3 responses each. I feel that these two soap operas appeal to young adults which the majority of people who surveyed are under the age of 21. As well as being high profile long running soaps that get a lot of magazine spaces. The results were what I expected this is because I think Hollyoaks and Eastenders are stereotypically watched by teenagers which is the majority of people who answered the survey.
- 3. In question 2 I can see that people would expect drama from a soap opera, also people expect drama, romance and conflict from a soap opera drama. From the question I can see that people would expect to see drama from a soap opera I think this is because in soap operas everything is dramatized (stereotypically), viewers like to escape reality and watch others people’s drama. It is also a form of escapism.

In question 3 I asked what gender do they think soap operas appeal to, 83% said that it appeals to a female audience, I think this is because the themes raised in shows such as Eastenders appeal to a female audience. This can suggest that women prefer watching more complex programs compared to men who stereotypically prefer watching more linear programs with basic plots.
- 5. In question 4 I asked people if they watch soap operas, 3 of the six people said that they rarely watch soap operas, I think this is because soap operas appeal to young adults aged above 21 years old. However two people said that they never watch soap operas and only two people said that they regularly watch soap operas.
- 6. From the responses to this question, half of the responses suggests that soap operas are dominated by females. Also no one answered ‘no’, this can connote that no one who answered the survey believes that soap operas are dominated by men. In addition
- 7. In question 6 I asked what type of narrative they would expect to see in a soap opera, the majority of people who answered said they would expect a multi-stranded narrative which means more than one storyline in the show occurring at once.
- 8. In question 7 I asked people what aspects appeal to them the most in a soap opera, people expected drama and action and did not expect romance or crime. However 3 people said they would expect all of the above in a stereotypical soap opera like Eastenders.

In question 8 I asked what age group do they expect to watch soap operas, people who I surveyed said that they expect young adults to watch soap operas, I think they said this because the themes raised in certain soap operas appeal to young adults. No one said that the elderly, teenagers or young children stereotypically watch soap operas.
