- 2. What is symmetry? • The quality of being made up of exactly similar parts facing each other or around an axis is called symmetry. • A line of symmetry is a line that divide a figure into two equal ( congruent) half.
- 3. Line Symmetry • Reflection symmetry or line symmetry is a symmetry with respect to reflection. • That is, a figure which does not change upon undergoing a reflection has reflection (line) symmetry.
- 4. Rotational Symmetry • Generally speaking, an object with rotational symmetry, also known as radial symmetry, is an object that looks the same after a certain amount of rotation. • An object may have more than one rotational symmetry
- 5. Figures with 1 line of symmetry. • Figures like an isosceles triangle, an arrow ,letter ‘A’ etc. have 1 line of symmetry.
- 6. Figures with 2 lines of symmetry. • Figures like a rectangle, a basketball, the letter ‘H’ etc. have 2 lines of symmetry .
- 7. Figures with 3 lines of symmetry. • Figures like an equilateral triangle, a three petaled flower, have 3 lines of symmetry
- 8. Figures with more than 3 lines of symmetry. • Figures like circle ,square , flowers etc. have more than 3 lines of symmetry.
- 9. Figures with no lines of symmetry. • Figures like pallelogram , a written notebook, map of a country etc . have no line of symmetry.
