TASK 1. TRANSLATION
PARAGRAPH 1
The next few decades will see great changes in the way energy is supplied and
used. In some major oil producing nations, 'peak oil' has already been reached, and
there are increasing fears of global warming. Consequently, many countries are
focusing on the switch to a low carbon economy. This transition will lead to major
changes in the supply and use of electricity. Firstly, there will be an increase in
overall demand, as consumers switch from oil and gas to electricity to power their
homes and vehicles. Secondly, there will be an increase in power generation, not
only in terms of how much is generated, but also how it is generated, as there is
growing electricity generation from renewable sources. To meet these challenges,
countries are investing in Smart Grid technology. This system aims to provide the
electricity industry with a better understanding of power generation and demand, and
to use this information to create a more efficient power network.
eficiente.
TASK 2. REFLECTION
The text is very interesting and explains how some changes will be made in the
energy of the planet and the consequences that this can bring, on the other hand, it
was somewhat difficult to translate expressions that are in the past, although in the
context of the Future showing a more complex syntax in its structure and making this
a language objective easier to understand in its native language, such as: (in the
way energy is supplied and used)
In addition, we can observe how an expression used in different contexts is used as
a model of language transformation which is another expression that must be
supplanted in its syntactic form in Spanish, since it cannot be described in the same
way as in English. , which is: in some of the major oil producing nations, this
expression caused me confusion because the grammatical form is something
strange: "peak of oil" has already been reached, this expression caused me
confusion because I have always observed (has been) and not (it has already been).
in this it was possible to observe how the legal regimes of a language is covered by
parts in which the original form of many phrases and words must be respected,
opening the field to which it is of law in this language and which must be fulfilled.
TASK 3. CHART
METHOD STRATEGY TECHNIQUE
The way in which the
translator faces the whole
of the original text and
develops the translator
process according to
certain principles. It
supposes the
development of a
determined translator
process and regulated by
some principles in
function of the translator's
objective, the method has
therefore a conscious
supraindividual character
and responds to a global
option that runs through
the entire text.
It is the concrete
application visible in the
result that affects minor
areas of the text; It is
individual and procedural
in nature, consisting of
the mechanisms used by
the translator to solve the
problems encountered
These affect the result of
the translation and are
cataloged in comparison
with the original referring
to textual microunits, they
have a discursive and
contextual character
being functional
Adaptation: it consists of
replacing a reality in one
language with the same
reality in another. It is not
done with the same words
but in a way that is more
understandable to
whoever is reading or
listening to it.
Expansion: the text is
amplified for reasons of
structure or when the
ambiguity of the original
texts must be ended. This
is usually done when
translating from English to
Spanish, since many
English terms lack gender
and in Spanish if it is
necessary to specify
whether it is male or
female.
Reduction: is the reverse
procedure to the interior.
Loan: consists of using
words from the original
text in the translated text
and they are usually
written in italics. Example:
sandwich or blue jeans.
Compensation: usually
used by translators in the
case of not finding an
appropriate
correspondence. Both
expansion and reduction
are used, as appropriate
at each moment.
Calco: words are created
following the structure of
the language of origin, as
for example "basketball"
was created "basketball".
Modulation: it consists of
varying the form thanks to
a semantic change,
making the new
translation from a new
point of view. For
example, if the actual
translation gives you "it's
not hard to prove", it
would actually translate to
"it's easy to show".
Transposition: the
grammatical category is
changed without
changing the meaning of
the message.
Equivalence: the
meaning of a word
corresponds to both a
language and another,
being equivalent words
that have the same
meaning.

COMMENTS BY YEISON ARIEL FRANCO
Hello
Dear mate Nubia
I think you have been successful in your translation especially when you mention the
superlative form in the translation (they will be able) you mention: they could collect
information in real time.
This part of the translation is the same but with a small change in its grammatical
structure, another important point in the translation well deduced from this paragraph
is the literal taking of the words in the sentence: For example, they could use the
washing mashine at night. Smart meters too
can be connected to the internet or telephone system, allowing the consumer

PARAGRAPH 2
Smart Grid technology basically involves the application of a computer system to the
electricity network. The computer system can be used to collect information about
supply and demand and improve engineer's ability to manage the system. With
better information about electricity demand, the network will be able to increase the
amount of electricity delivered per unit generated, leading to potential reductions in
fuel needs and carbon emissions. Moreover, the computer system will assist in
reducing operational and maintenance costs.
TASK 2. REFLECTION
We know that on doing made ourselves a translation we face to innumerable
disadvantages that can put in risk the original text. The complex process of
translation demands to bear in mind such different aspects as the linguistic one, the
sociocultural one, the semantic one and the textual one, in order to achieve a
translation that is, simultaneously, faithful to the content
and to the ideas that the author expressed in the original text. Nevertheless, I Had
some disadvantages or doubts with the word "Smart" and "Grid" since it did not know
if to translate it or to make her like was. So finally I decided to use the technique of
tradition LENDING, for solving my problem.
TASK 3. CHART
METHOD STRATEGY TECHNIQUE
The translator method is the
development of a specific
translator process, regulated
by a principle based on the
translator's objective; The
method has, of course, a
supraindividual and
conscious character
(although sometimes it can be
unconscious) and it is a global
option that runs through the
entire text.
The method of translation is
applied to the totality of the
text for translating.
 Translation word for
word.
 Literal translation.
 Faithful translation.
 Semantic
translation.
 Adjustment.
 Free translation.
 Idiomatic
translation.
Communicative
translation.
It possesses an individual
character since it consists
of the mechanisms used
by the translator to solve
the problems found in the
development of this
process depending on his
specific needs.
The technique of translation
changes inside the same
text according to every case
and depending on the verbal
punctual elements that will
be translated.
1.The lending is a
procedure of translation that
consists of using a word or
an expression of the original
text in the text of destination.
Example: This vedette a
high and slender woman.
2. THE TRACE
When a translator resorts to
the lexical trace, believes or
a neologism uses in the
language of destination by
means of the adoption of the
structure of the language of
origin.
Example: The German word
handball is translated in
Spanish balonmano, or the
term Englishman skyscraper
is translated in Frenchman
gratte-ciel.
3. LITERAL
TRANSLATION Normally is
called a literal translation or
metafrase. It consists of
translating word for word,
achieving a text in the
language of destination so
correct as idiomatic.
Example: I am reading a
book ⇒ Yo estoy leyendo un
libro.
4. TRANSPOSITION The
transposition consists of
happening from a
grammatical category to
other one without altering
the meaning of the text. This
technology introduces a
change in the grammatical
structure.
Ejemplo: He learns
quickly ⇒ Es veloz para
aprender.
5. MODULATION
The modulation resides in
changing the form of the text
by means of a semantic
change or of perspective.
Example: Maybe have
reason?
Your n'as peut-être pas tort.
6. EQUIVALENCE.
The equivalence is a
procedure of translation by
which the same reality is
transmitted by means of a
totally different expression.
Ejemplo: Chat échaudé
craint l’eau froide ⇒ Él que
se quemó con leche ve la
vaca y llora.
7. ADJUSTMENT
The adjustment, also so
called cultural substitution or
cultural equivalent, consists
of replacing a cultural
element of the original text
by other one who adapts
TAKS 4 FEEDBACK
1) Good evening Companion Sandra.
I have read his work. His translation is very good and rigorous, I congratulate it.
Nevertheless in the frases " Sources of renewable energy, such seize wind, wave
and solar, plough notoriously unpredictable, and nuclear power, which is also set to
ace was uncreating nations switch to alternative energy sources, is inflexible " in
the first part you translated it like: Fuentes de energía renovable (..) I think that
he would have better if he adds him “el” Staying of the following way :“Las
fuentes de energía renovable, como el viento, las olas y la energía solar, son
notoriamente impredecibles, y la energía nuclear, que también se espera que
aumente a medida que las naciones cambian a fuentes de energía
alternativas, es inflexible”
Also in this phrase " Potential solutions include investigating new and efficient
ways to store energy and encouraging consumers to uses electricity at off-
peak steal" on having translated it he still has me a bit incoherent, you might
translate it hereby “Las posibles soluciones incluyen investigar formas
nuevas y eficientes de almacenar energía y alentar a los consumidores a
usar la electricidad en las horas de menor actividad.”
2) Good evening companion Yeison.
I have read his work. His translation is very good and rigorous, I congratulate it. In
spite of the fact that it had some problems on having realized the translation, as it
explains it in the reflection it could confront and give him a solution, made Good it.
Nevertheless I believe that in this phrase "This transition will lead to major
changes in the supply and uses of electricity" You translated it like: "Esta
transición dará lugar a cambios importantes en el suministro y uso de
electricidad" I think that it remains better "Esta transición conducirá a cambios
importantes en el suministro y el uso de la electricidad"
3) Good afternoon, companion, Piedad
better to the culture of the
language put.
Ejemplo: baseball ⇒ football
I have read his work, and think that it is a good translation, nevertheless you might
improve her, for example in the phrase " pilot schemes to promote and test it
ploughs already underway " - I think that you would have more coherent if you
write " los planes piloto para promoverla y probarla ya están en marcha" Also
in this phrase: " Consumers ploughs currently testing the new smart meters
" Maybe podrias to translate it hereby : "Los consumidores actualmente están
probando los nuevos medidores inteligentes".

Smart Grid technology offers benefits to the consumer too. They will be able to
collect real-time information on their energy use for each appliance. Varying tariffs
throughout the day will give customers the incentive to use appliances at times when
supply greatly exceeds demand, leading to great reductions in bills. For example,
they may use their washing machines at night. Smart meters can also be connected
to the internet or telephone system, allowing customers to switch appliances on or
off remotely. Furthermore, if houses are fitted with the apparatus to generate their
own power, appliances can be set to run directly from the on-site power source, and
any excess can be sold to the grid.
TASK 2. REFLECTION
The text is very interesting too, because it explains the benefits that offers Smart
Grid Technology to the consumer. The translate was a bit difficult for me, firstly some
sentences doesn´t have the same structure of Spanish or the syntax, sach as: “on
their energy use for each appliance” its metaphrase will be” sobre sus usos de
energía para cada dispositivo” but it really means “ del consumo de energía de cada
electrodoméstico” other example is “at times when supply greatly exceds demand”
that metaphrase will be “en tiempos cundo el suministro exceda extremadamente la
demanda”. But its translate is en tiempos que el suministro exceda en gran medida
la demanda. Other example is “allowing customers to switch appliances on or off
remotely”. This is known as: transposition.
We can identify modeling technique in “leading to great reductions in bills” that
translate “llevando así a una considerable reducción en los recibos. because the
form of the text is changed through a semantic or perspective change. Othor
example is “appliances can be set to run directly from the on-site power source” that
means los equipos podrían ser puestos a trabajar directamente desde el sitio de la
fuente de alimentación.

of the modulation technique and we best the translate.
Equally in In some major oil producing nations the translation will be ,,,,, En

3) Hi mate Holman
I reviewed you work I can say that I fully agree with you, when you affirm “to
bear in mind such different aspects as the linguistic one, the sociocultural one,
the semantic one and the textual one, in order to achieve a translation that is,
simultaneously, faithful to the content” because the translater must know a lot
of the language to translate.
In the phrase “the network will be able to increase the amount of electricity
delivered per unit generated”, will be best the translate: la red será capaz
de incrementar la cantidad de electricidad entregada por unidad generada
. making use of the technique metaphrase.
And the sentence: “ leading to potential reductions in fuel needs and carbon
emissions”. Will be, llevándolos a una reducción potencial de combustibles que
se necesitan y la emisión de carbón because, in that sentence doesn´t talk of
possibility but about something concrete , and you say :lo que dará lugar a
posibles reducciones
You did a good work.

With these changes comes a range of challenges. The first involves managing the
supply and demand. Sources of renewable energy, such as wind, wave and solar,
are notoriously unpredictable, and nuclear power, which is also set to increase as
nations switch to alternative energy sources, is inflexible. With oil and gas, it is
relatively simple to increase the supply of energy to match the increasing demand
during peak times of the day or year. With alternative sources, this is far more
difficult, and may lead to blackouts or system collapse. Potential solutions include
investigating new and efficient ways to store energy and encouraging consumers to
use electricity at off-peak times. A second problem is the fact that many renewable
power generation sources are located in remote areas, such as windy uplands and
coastal regions, where there is currently a lack of electrical infrastructure. New
infrastructures therefore must be built. Thankfully, with improved smart technology,
this can be done more efficiently by reducing the reinforcement or construction costs.
TASK 2. REFLECTION
The reflection that I give on the text is that if it seemed a bit complex in terms of the
translation of the text because even if you know the vocabulary, you must know how
to interpret it so that the wording has a more coherent meaning and when passed to
Spanish it makes a better sense.
I had some difficulties with some phrases like: The first involves managing the supply
and demand. Because you have to take structural grammar into account and not
translate word by word.
If a paraphrase is made "El primero involucra Gestionando la oferta y la
demanda".
But if we interpret it to Spanish, it says: La primera consiste en gestionar la oferta y
la demanda.
Another phrase was: power, which is also set to increase as nations switch to
alternative energy sources, is inflexible, yes we do the paraphrase says in Spanish:
“El poder, que también se prevé que aumente como las naciones cambian a
Fuentes alternativas de energía, es inflexible.”, but if we put interpretation on it,
it says: El poder, que también está programado para aumentar a medida que
las naciones cambian a fuentes de energía alternativas, es inflexible.
We must take into account five basic structures of sentences for example
Subject-verb, Subject-verb-object, Subject-verb-adjective, Subject-verb-adverb and
Subject-verb-noun.
Likewise, the order of adjectives is essential, for example: opinion, size, age, form,
color, origin, material, purpose and substantive example:
The picture shows a middle aged man with gray hair. I have dark skin and very
white teeth.

PARAGRAPH 5
Although Smart Technology is still in its infancy, pilot schemes to promote and test
it are already underway. Consumers are currently testing the new smart meters
which can be used in their homes to manage electricity use. There are also a
number of demonstrations being planned to show how the smart technology could
practically work, and trials are in place to test the new electrical infrastructure. It is
likely that technology will be added in 'layers', starting with 'quick win' methods which
will provide initial carbon savings, to be followed by more advanced systems at a
later date. Cities are prime candidates for investment into smart energy, due to the
high population density and high energy use. It is here where Smart Technology is
likely to be promoted first, utilising a range of sustainable power sources, transport
solutions and an infrastructure for charging electrically powered vehicles. The
infrastructure is already changing fast. By the year 2050, changes in the energy
supply will have transformed our homes, our roads and our behaviour.
nuestro comportamiento.
TASK 2. REFLECTION
After I have written the translation of the paragraph above (number five) I had some
problems with the unknown words and expressions such as underway, smart
meters, to manage, trials, likely, ‘layers’, ‘quick win’, prime, savings, investment,
sources, utilizing, charging, supply and roads. Taking into account the word “utilizing”
in my opinion is associated with using.
About the above, to achieve the translation of the paragraph five into Spanish
Language I used the following techniques:
First I read the whole paragraph in English language.
Second, I identified the unknown words and expressions, then I underlined them.
Third, I used the online dictionary “WordReferece” in order to know the meaning of
each unknown word and expression into Spanish Language, then I associated them
with the context of the paragraph, since a word in English has a lot of meanings.
Fourth, after the above, I started with the translation of the paragraph into Spanish
Language, and at the same time I was writing and reading in order to get a coherence
in my writing. In this step when I did not know the meaning of the words I used the
Calque technique since I translated word per word from the source language into
the target language (Spanish). Also, I used the literal translations in some
sentences however, I used the compensation technique because I added some
articles in Spanish Language that are not used in English, but in Spanish they are
used. For example, changes in (English) and Los cambios in (Spanish). Finally, in
my translation was used the transposition technique as well. since some parts of
speech changed their sequence/grammatical category when the words were
translated.
Finally, I read whole the translation again and if there were mistakes I made
corrections, however I’m not very sure if these two words (‘layers’ and ‘quick win’)
are translated well.

1) Hello Yeison, I was readind your final traduction and I want to give you a lot of
congratulations I liked so much your contributions.
According to your reflection, your contribution was good. However, I think that you
can improve this sentence: "in this it was possible to observe how the legal

Finally, I want to say you, that in your reflection lacked to explain on the techniques

2) Hello classmate Holman, I read your work and I want to say that I liked your
translation.
About your reflection, I want to say you that I could understand the general idea of
your text. However, it's very important to take into account the following pieces of
advice:
When we are writing in English or Spanish language is very important to know
when we should use the capital letter, and the sign of the comma. for example in
this sentence:
"Nevertheless I Had some disadvantages or doubts with the word "Smart" and
"Grid" since it did not know if to translate it or to make her like was."
it's very important to use the comma since if you don't write it the sentence is very
long. Also, the use of capital letter in the expression I Had, it's not correct. For that
reason, I think that your sentence could be like the following:
"Nevertheless, I had some disadvantages or doubts with the word "Smart" and
"Grid" since it did not know if to translate it or to make her like was."
Note 1: According to your question about "Smart and Grid" I want to say you that it
means in spanish language: Red inteligente. I did know about the meaning of Grid,
however I use the online Dictionary Wordreference and I could find that Grid = red
eléctrica.
So, from my view, the expression " Smart Grid technology" = Tecnología de Red
inteligente or Tecnología de Red inteligente.
Best Regards

  • 2. TASK 1,2,3,4 BY YEISON ARIEL FRANCO TASK 1. TRANSLATION PARAGRAPH 1 The next few decades will see great changes in the way energy is supplied and used. In some major oil producing nations, 'peak oil' has already been reached, and there are increasing fears of global warming. Consequently, many countries are focusing on the switch to a low carbon economy. This transition will lead to major changes in the supply and use of electricity. Firstly, there will be an increase in overall demand, as consumers switch from oil and gas to electricity to power their homes and vehicles. Secondly, there will be an increase in power generation, not only in terms of how much is generated, but also how it is generated, as there is growing electricity generation from renewable sources. To meet these challenges, countries are investing in Smart Grid technology. This system aims to provide the electricity industry with a better understanding of power generation and demand, and to use this information to create a more efficient power network. TASK 2. REFLECTION The text is very interesting and explains how some changes will be made in the energy of the planet and the consequences that this can bring, on the other hand, it was somewhat difficult to translate expressions that are in the past, although in the context of the Future showing a more complex syntax in its structure and making this
  • 3. a language objective easier to understand in its native language, such as: (in the way energy is supplied and used) In addition, we can observe how an expression used in different contexts is used as a model of language transformation which is another expression that must be supplanted in its syntactic form in Spanish, since it cannot be described in the same way as in English. , which is: in some of the major oil producing nations, this expression caused me confusion because the grammatical form is something strange: "peak of oil" has already been reached, this expression caused me confusion because I have always observed (has been) and not (it has already been). in this it was possible to observe how the legal regimes of a language is covered by parts in which the original form of many phrases and words must be respected, opening the field to which it is of law in this language and which must be fulfilled. TASK 3. CHART METHOD STRATEGY TECHNIQUE The way in which the translator faces the whole of the original text and develops the translator process according to certain principles. It supposes the development of a determined translator process and regulated by some principles in function of the translator's objective, the method has therefore a conscious supraindividual character and responds to a global option that runs through the entire text. It is the concrete application visible in the result that affects minor areas of the text; It is individual and procedural in nature, consisting of the mechanisms used by the translator to solve the problems encountered These affect the result of the translation and are cataloged in comparison with the original referring to textual microunits, they have a discursive and contextual character being functional Adaptation: it consists of replacing a reality in one language with the same reality in another. It is not done with the same words but in a way that is more understandable to whoever is reading or listening to it. Expansion: the text is amplified for reasons of structure or when the ambiguity of the original texts must be ended. This is usually done when translating from English to Spanish, since many English terms lack gender and in Spanish if it is necessary to specify whether it is male or female. Reduction: is the reverse procedure to the interior.
  • 4. Loan: consists of using words from the original text in the translated text and they are usually written in italics. Example: sandwich or blue jeans. Compensation: usually used by translators in the case of not finding an appropriate correspondence. Both expansion and reduction are used, as appropriate at each moment. Calco: words are created following the structure of the language of origin, as for example "basketball" was created "basketball". Modulation: it consists of varying the form thanks to a semantic change, making the new translation from a new point of view. For example, if the actual translation gives you "it's not hard to prove", it would actually translate to "it's easy to show". Transposition: the grammatical category is changed without changing the meaning of the message. Equivalence: the meaning of a word corresponds to both a language and another, being equivalent words that have the same meaning.
  • 5. TAKS 4 FEEDBACK COMMENTS BY YEISON ARIEL FRANCO Hello Dear mate Nubia I think you have been successful in your translation especially when you mention the superlative form in the translation (they will be able) you mention: they could collect information in real time. This part of the translation is the same but with a small change in its grammatical structure, another important point in the translation well deduced from this paragraph is the literal taking of the words in the sentence: For example, they could use the washing mashine at night. Smart meters too can be connected to the internet or telephone system, allowing the consumer Turn off or turn on the equipment to Remote Control.
  • 6. TASK 1,2,3,4 BY HOLMAN EDUARDO CULMA TASK 1. TRANSLATION PARAGRAPH 2 Smart Grid technology basically involves the application of a computer system to the electricity network. The computer system can be used to collect information about supply and demand and improve engineer's ability to manage the system. With better information about electricity demand, the network will be able to increase the amount of electricity delivered per unit generated, leading to potential reductions in fuel needs and carbon emissions. Moreover, the computer system will assist in reducing operational and maintenance costs. TASK 2. REFLECTION We know that on doing made ourselves a translation we face to innumerable disadvantages that can put in risk the original text. The complex process of translation demands to bear in mind such different aspects as the linguistic one, the sociocultural one, the semantic one and the textual one, in order to achieve a translation that is, simultaneously, faithful to the content
  • 7. and to the ideas that the author expressed in the original text. Nevertheless, I Had some disadvantages or doubts with the word "Smart" and "Grid" since it did not know if to translate it or to make her like was. So finally I decided to use the technique of tradition LENDING, for solving my problem. TASK 3. CHART METHOD STRATEGY TECHNIQUE The translator method is the development of a specific translator process, regulated by a principle based on the translator's objective; The method has, of course, a supraindividual and conscious character (although sometimes it can be unconscious) and it is a global option that runs through the entire text. The method of translation is applied to the totality of the text for translating.  Translation word for word.  Literal translation.  Faithful translation.  Semantic translation.  Adjustment.  Free translation.  Idiomatic translation. Communicative translation. It possesses an individual character since it consists of the mechanisms used by the translator to solve the problems found in the development of this process depending on his specific needs. The technique of translation changes inside the same text according to every case and depending on the verbal punctual elements that will be translated. 1.The lending is a procedure of translation that consists of using a word or an expression of the original text in the text of destination. Example: This vedette a high and slender woman. 2. THE TRACE When a translator resorts to the lexical trace, believes or a neologism uses in the language of destination by means of the adoption of the structure of the language of origin. Example: The German word handball is translated in Spanish balonmano, or the term Englishman skyscraper is translated in Frenchman gratte-ciel. 3. LITERAL TRANSLATION Normally is called a literal translation or metafrase. It consists of translating word for word,
  • 8. achieving a text in the language of destination so correct as idiomatic. Example: I am reading a book ⇒ Yo estoy leyendo un libro. 4. TRANSPOSITION The transposition consists of happening from a grammatical category to other one without altering the meaning of the text. This technology introduces a change in the grammatical structure. Ejemplo: He learns quickly ⇒ Es veloz para aprender. 5. MODULATION The modulation resides in changing the form of the text by means of a semantic change or of perspective. Example: Maybe have reason? Your n'as peut-être pas tort. 6. EQUIVALENCE. The equivalence is a procedure of translation by which the same reality is transmitted by means of a totally different expression. Ejemplo: Chat échaudé craint l’eau froide ⇒ Él que se quemó con leche ve la vaca y llora. 7. ADJUSTMENT The adjustment, also so called cultural substitution or cultural equivalent, consists of replacing a cultural element of the original text by other one who adapts
  • 9. TAKS 4 FEEDBACK 1) Good evening Companion Sandra. I have read his work. His translation is very good and rigorous, I congratulate it. Nevertheless in the frases " Sources of renewable energy, such seize wind, wave and solar, plough notoriously unpredictable, and nuclear power, which is also set to ace was uncreating nations switch to alternative energy sources, is inflexible " in the first part you translated it like: Fuentes de energía renovable (..) I think that he would have better if he adds him “el” Staying of the following way :“Las fuentes de energía renovable, como el viento, las olas y la energía solar, son notoriamente impredecibles, y la energía nuclear, que también se espera que aumente a medida que las naciones cambian a fuentes de energía alternativas, es inflexible” Also in this phrase " Potential solutions include investigating new and efficient ways to store energy and encouraging consumers to uses electricity at off- peak steal" on having translated it he still has me a bit incoherent, you might translate it hereby “Las posibles soluciones incluyen investigar formas nuevas y eficientes de almacenar energía y alentar a los consumidores a usar la electricidad en las horas de menor actividad.” 2) Good evening companion Yeison. I have read his work. His translation is very good and rigorous, I congratulate it. In spite of the fact that it had some problems on having realized the translation, as it explains it in the reflection it could confront and give him a solution, made Good it. Nevertheless I believe that in this phrase "This transition will lead to major changes in the supply and uses of electricity" You translated it like: "Esta transición dará lugar a cambios importantes en el suministro y uso de electricidad" I think that it remains better "Esta transición conducirá a cambios importantes en el suministro y el uso de la electricidad" 3) Good afternoon, companion, Piedad better to the culture of the language put. • 10. I have read his work, and think that it is a good translation, nevertheless you might improve her, for example in the phrase " pilot schemes to promote and test it ploughs already underway " - I think that you would have more coherent if you write " los planes piloto para promoverla y probarla ya están en marcha" Also in this phrase: " Consumers ploughs currently testing the new smart meters " Maybe podrias to translate it hereby : "Los consumidores actualmente están probando los nuevos medidores inteligentes". TASK 1,2,3,4 BY NUBIA MARITZA CUARAN TASK 1. TRANSLATION PARAGRAPH 3 Smart Grid technology offers benefits to the consumer too. They will be able to collect real-time information on their energy use for each appliance. Varying tariffs throughout the day will give customers the incentive to use appliances at times when supply greatly exceeds demand, leading to great reductions in bills. For example, they may use their washing machines at night. Smart meters can also be connected to the internet or telephone system, allowing customers to switch appliances on or off remotely. Furthermore, if houses are fitted with the apparatus to generate their own power, appliances can be set to run directly from the on-site power source, and any excess can be sold to the grid.
TASK 2. REFLECTION The text is very interesting too, because it explains the benefits that offers Smart Grid Technology to the consumer. The translate was a bit difficult for me, firstly some sentences doesn´t have the same structure of Spanish or the syntax, sach as: “on their energy use for each appliance” its metaphrase will be” sobre sus usos de energía para cada dispositivo” but it really means “ del consumo de energía de cada electrodoméstico” other example is “at times when supply greatly exceds demand” that metaphrase will be “en tiempos cundo el suministro exceda extremadamente la demanda”. But its translate is en tiempos que el suministro exceda en gran medida la demanda. Other example is “allowing customers to switch appliances on or off remotely”. This is known as: transposition. We can identify modeling technique in “leading to great reductions in bills” that translate “llevando así a una considerable reducción en los recibos. because the form of the text is changed through a semantic or perspective change. Othor example is “appliances can be set to run directly from the on-site power source” that means los equipos podrían ser puestos a trabajar directamente desde el sitio de la fuente de alimentación.

Equally in In some major oil producing nations the translation will be ,,,,, En algunas naciones de mayor producción de aceite. after we look the phrase '"peak oil' has already been reached", using the adaptation technique will be el máximo de petróleo ya fue alcanzado thank. 3) Hi mate Holman I reviewed you work I can say that I fully agree with you, when you affirm “to bear in mind such different aspects as the linguistic one, the sociocultural one, the semantic one and the textual one, in order to achieve a translation that is, simultaneously, faithful to the content” because the translater must know a lot of the language to translate. In the phrase “the network will be able to increase the amount of electricity delivered per unit generated”, will be best the translate: la red será capaz de incrementar la cantidad de electricidad entregada por unidad generada . making use of the technique metaphrase. TRANSLATION PARAGRAPH 4 With these changes comes a range of challenges. The first involves managing the supply and demand. Sources of renewable energy, such as wind, wave and solar, are notoriously unpredictable, and nuclear power, which is also set to increase as nations switch to alternative energy sources, is inflexible. With oil and gas, it is relatively simple to increase the supply of energy to match the increasing demand during peak times of the day or year. With alternative sources, this is far more difficult, and may lead to blackouts or system collapse. Potential solutions include investigating new and efficient ways to store energy and encouraging consumers to
  • 16. use electricity at off-peak times. A second problem is the fact that many renewable power generation sources are located in remote areas, such as windy uplands and coastal regions, where there is currently a lack of electrical infrastructure. New infrastructures therefore must be built. Thankfully, with improved smart technology, this can be done more efficiently by reducing the reinforcement or construction costs.
  • 17. TASK 2. REFLECTION The reflection that I give on the text is that if it seemed a bit complex in terms of the translation of the text because even if you know the vocabulary, you must know how to interpret it so that the wording has a more coherent meaning and when passed to Spanish it makes a better sense. I had some difficulties with some phrases like: The first involves managing the supply and demand. Because you have to take structural grammar into account and not translate word by word. If a paraphrase is made "El primero involucra Gestionando la oferta y la demanda". But if we interpret it to Spanish, it says: La primera consiste en gestionar la oferta y la demanda. Another phrase was: power, which is also set to increase as nations switch to alternative energy sources, is inflexible, yes we do the paraphrase says in Spanish: “El poder, que también se prevé que aumente como las naciones cambian a Fuentes alternativas de energía, es inflexible.”, but if we put interpretation on it, it says: El poder, que también está programado para aumentar a medida que las naciones cambian a fuentes de energía alternativas, es inflexible. We must take into account five basic structures of sentences for example Subject-verb, Subject-verb-object, Subject-verb-adjective, Subject-verb-adverb and Subject-verb-noun.
  • 18. Likewise, the order of adjectives is essential, for example: opinion, size, age, form, color, origin, material, purpose and substantive example: The picture shows a middle aged man with gray hair. I have dark skin and very white teeth. TASK 3. CHART METHOD STRATEGY TECHNIQUE It is the development of a determined translator process regulated by a principle based on the translator's objective; the method has, therefore, an individual and conscious character (although sometimes it can be unconscious) and it is a global option that runs through the entire text. It´s a plan for the orderly and systematic mode of procedure to arrive at a final result; presentation of language material, of the selected approach at which theory is put into practice and at which at which theory is put into practice and it presents the order in which the content will be presented. E.g. the general form in which the knowledge will be given depending on the type of student. This usually requires some sort of planning. It is a plan of action designed to However, it has an individual character since it consists of the mechanisms used by the translator to solve the problems encountered in the development of that process according to their specific needs. Is also the tactic. Inside a strategy there are methods which are a procedure to fulfill the strategy created. It is a plan to achieve. Is a procedure or skill for completing a specific task. These are the tricks that can be taught. The manner and ability with which someone uses to develop a method, the step by step to complete a established method; in summary it is the manner in which technical details are treated (as by a writer) or basic physical movements are used (as by a dancer); also: ability to treat such details or use such movements.
  • 19. reach or to achieve established aim. TAKS 4 FEEDBACK 1) Hello partner YEISON ARIEL I read your work and I could see that: when you say: It is true that there are words that you should definitely write in your mother tongue because there is no right translation, or you should look up the word that comes close to what you want to say. 2) Hello partner NUBIA MARITZA I observe that you did a good analysis and feedback of the text because you detailed each structure well. and it is true, the sentences do not have the same structure of Spanish or syntax, that is why when we must address the guide and read about translation techniques to understand how to interpret a text to give it form and meaning. 3) Hi mate, I reviewed your work and I think you feel it: It is true that the translation process is complex because it requires taking into account aspects as different as linguistic, sociocultural, semantic and textual, to achieve a translation that is, at the same time, faithful to the content. and the technique that you used for the Smart Grid title word, using the semantic change seems great to me. because I would say as RED ELECTRICA INTELIGENTE, but when you separate it means something totally different. That's OK.
  • 20. TASK 1,2,3,4 BY PIEDAD LOREN SERRANO TASK 1. TRANSLATION PARAGRAPH 5 Although Smart Technology is still in its infancy, pilot schemes to promote and test it are already underway. Consumers are currently testing the new smart meters which can be used in their homes to manage electricity use. There are also a number of demonstrations being planned to show how the smart technology could practically work, and trials are in place to test the new electrical infrastructure. It is likely that technology will be added in 'layers', starting with 'quick win' methods which will provide initial carbon savings, to be followed by more advanced systems at a later date. Cities are prime candidates for investment into smart energy, due to the high population density and high energy use. It is here where Smart Technology is likely to be promoted first, utilising a range of sustainable power sources, transport solutions and an infrastructure for charging electrically powered vehicles. The infrastructure is already changing fast. By the year 2050, changes in the energy supply will have transformed our homes, our roads and our behaviour.
TASK 2. REFLECTION After I have written the translation of the paragraph above (number five) I had some problems with the unknown words and expressions such as underway, smart meters, to manage, trials, likely, ‘layers’, ‘quick win’, prime, savings, investment, sources, utilizing, charging, supply and roads. Taking into account the word “utilizing” in my opinion is associated with using. About the above, to achieve the translation of the paragraph five into Spanish Language I used the following techniques: First I read the whole paragraph in English language. Second, I identified the unknown words and expressions, then I underlined them. Third, I used the online dictionary “WordReferece” in order to know the meaning of each unknown word and expression into Spanish Language, then I associated them with the context of the paragraph, since a word in English has a lot of meanings.
  • 22. Fourth, after the above, I started with the translation of the paragraph into Spanish Language, and at the same time I was writing and reading in order to get a coherence in my writing. In this step when I did not know the meaning of the words I used the Calque technique since I translated word per word from the source language into the target language (Spanish). Also, I used the literal translations in some sentences however, I used the compensation technique because I added some articles in Spanish Language that are not used in English, but in Spanish they are used. For example, changes in (English) and Los cambios in (Spanish). Finally, in my translation was used the transposition technique as well. since some parts of speech changed their sequence/grammatical category when the words were translated. Finally, I read whole the translation again and if there were mistakes I made corrections, however I’m not very sure if these two words (‘layers’ and ‘quick win’) are translated well. TASK 3. • 24. 2) Hello classmate Holman, I read your work and I want to say that I liked your translation. About your reflection, I want to say you that I could understand the general idea of your text. However, it's very important to take into account the following pieces of advice: When we are writing in English or Spanish language is very important to know when we should use the capital letter, and the sign of the comma. for example in this sentence: "Nevertheless I Had some disadvantages or doubts with the word "Smart" and "Grid" since it did not know if to translate it or to make her like was." it's very important to use the comma since if you don't write it the sentence is very long. Also, the use of capital letter in the expression I Had, it's not correct. For that reason, I think that your sentence could be like the following: "Nevertheless, I had some disadvantages or doubts with the word "Smart" and "Grid" since it did not know if to translate it or to make her like was." Note 1: According to your question about "Smart and Grid" I want to say you that it means in spanish language: Red inteligente. I did know about the meaning of Grid, however I use the online Dictionary Wordreference and I could find that Grid = red eléctrica. So, from my view, the expression " Smart Grid technology" = Tecnología de Red inteligente or Tecnología de Red inteligente. Best Regards Piedad Loren Serrano
