Task 5a
- 2. Pop Strengths: -Colour choices are very easy because there are a range of different bright colours that you could use. -There is a lot of content such as, artists and that gives me a good variety as to what I would like my double page spread to be based on. Weaknesses: -The target audience is very wide. - Can come across as very stereotypical and focused on one gender which is a wrong interpretation because both genders how interest in pop but girls are more likely to be associated to it. Rock Strengths: -The colour schemes are very simple and there aren't many contrasts to have to think about. -Generally follows the same sort of presentation technique. Weaknesses: -It's not approved of because rock can be denoted as dangerous and linked to "bad" things. RnB Strengths: -Very very popular and well known. Weakness: -Hard to make it unique.
- 3. I asked a few people what genre they thought I should focus my magazine on.
- 4. I asked 7 people, of which 2 people said rock, 2 people said RnB and 3 people said pop. So I have decided to do pop.
- 5. Pop is more popular compared to rock because the songs are often very popular and are on youtube as soon as they are released. Also, it can be hard to decide on a house style for rock despite the fact that it is easy to be able to contrast colours for rock magazines as they tend to be very dark and very monotone. However this is also the case with Pop as the colour schemes are very bright and as long the colours are bright, there is no issue with whether the house style is being followed or not. It can be slightly hard to differentiate Pop from RnB these days but RnB is very ethnically dominated and this can cause conflict whereas Pop is fairly diverse and it seems like it gives a sense of friendliness and welcoming.
- 6. I know I will be able to access suitable models for this genre according to the norm in today's media. I am very familiar with this genre as i am always listening to pop songs and have a suitable amount of knowledge that I am sure will help me in my tasks. I also know what sorts of props or makeup I will be using in order to make my magazine look appealing to the target audience. In a previous task I analysed a pop magazine so this has increased my knowledge from the media point of view.
