Task10 - previous students work
- 1. Jordan and Billy’s video WWW – this video is very successful I think due to the detail that they have paid to mise en scene. The lighting in the video is very effective as I like the use of fire and I like how it works with the black and white. The costume is also very fitting with this it features only black and white. The locations also are very clever and fit nicely with the mood of the song. I like the use of the fast jump cuts in the fast paced section of the song this works really well at that certain point. The framing is very good there is a lot of shots using rule of thirds and symmetry also good direct address shots when singing works nicely with the lighting to isolate the performer. EBI – some of the shots of billy for the narrative seemed a little less fitting than the rest as they felt like fillers but there were only a few. I feel overall all the aspects of production have been considered greatly and create a video that fits well with the music and has good shot variety creating a great conventional and visually impressive video.
- 2. Rahan’s video WWW – There were some attention to mise en scene which worked nicely as they featured some conventional props. There were some nice shots that were framed well I think the two shot was effective. EBI – I think there needed to be a better variety of shots in this video as it became quite repetitive but not for effect, the shots that were always shown weren't very well framed as they did not feature in techniques like the rule of thirds and they didn’t pay much attention to their background so it brought out the worst in their framing as it was to busy. Id say the editing matched the pace but they didn’t have a lot of cuts due to the lack of footage so it was quite boring to watch as it was so similar through out. I think they could have also tried to be more technical with in their filming using more movements and also think they should have paid more attention to the lighting as the subjects were lit fine but the whole setting was too well lit because it would have benefited if you couldn’t see the background.
- 3. Molly Perryman WWW – This video has a lot of variety in shots and camera movement which makes it really interesting to watch and also looks very professional. The costumes are very fitting with the genre. There are lots of nice artistic shots of items such as guitars which adds to the conventions. There is a really nice use of titles in the video matching lyrics an mixing in with footage in a really effective way overlying the two. They paid really good attention to locations and framing using good framing techniques experimenting with various angles as well which is something I didn’t see a lot in the others. The editing was very well done it matched the music through out even through changes of pace. The performance was very good and believable which was what added to the effect making it seem very real. EBI – I think there were little things wrong with this video I think the only small thing I noticed was the singing looked out of sync slightly in one shot but apart from that the whole video was very conventional and looked professional.
- 4. Marking In this section of the task we had to view some blogs looking at the research and planning and also the main task and the two ancillary tasks. Whilst looking at these we had to give all the stages a mark against the marking criteria. Most of the ones I guessed were very close if not correct which was good showing that I can identify what is successful and what is not. It helps me get a understanding of what a certain grade looks like which will help me steer in the direction of that grade. It was extremely useful whilst looking at the practical tasks as I can see in the videos just like I analysed before what things work well and what mistakes to avoid. Now having a better understanding of the criteria and what marks look like I can now self assess my own work to judge were I think I am and how to improve certain areas.
