State revenues have not kept pace with inflation.
Enrollment   is Declining
The population is aging.
H.S. Graduation Requirements are Increasing

400-450 students maximum in a building Enrollment growth should be unrestrained Centrally located for convenient access  Montessori Assumptions Montessori & TAG Options
Approximately 120 students  6 classrooms Grades 4-6 Keep students together in one location Centrally located for convenient access No transportation provided TAG Assumptions Montessori & TAG Options
Provide a comprehensive program (Pre-school to Grade 6) Requires a minimum of 3 classrooms. TAG remains at Central Grade School. Montessori and TAG Options OPTION   1 Open a Montessori   Satellite at Traverse Heights
Montessori and TAG Options OPTION   1 Pros Minimal disruption of programs at  Central Grade. Provides East and West side options Provides recently reconstructed facility for satellite.

Montessori and TAG Options OPTION   2   Cons May require classroom construction at Silver Lake Disrupts approximately 100 students. Ends a 30+ year tradition.
Reassign Silver Lake students to Silver Lake. Reassign traditional program to Glenn Loomis. Open enrolled students attend a different school. Montessori and TAG Options OPTION   3   Maintain Montessori and TAG at Central Grade and move traditional elementary program to other sites.
Montessori and TAG Options OPTION   3 Pros Allows Central Grade walkers to walk to Glenn Loomis Frees up over 10 classrooms for future Montessori growth. Saves money, as it reduces by one, the number of elementary school operations.
Montessori and TAG Options OPTION   3 Cons Disrupts many students. No traditional education program at Central Grade School. Produces uncertainty regarding fate of open enrolled students.
Montessori and TAG Options OPTION   4   Move TAG students out of Central Grade and relocate TAG program to Eastern Elementary School.  Reassign some Eastern students to Old Mission.
Montessori and TAG Options OPTION   4   Pros Maximizes space usage at Old Mission. Places TAG program at the school  from which the greatest number of TAG students originate. Opens up approx. 6 classrooms at Central Grade to accommodate future Montessori growth.
Montessori and TAG Options OPTION   4   Cons Eastern students assigned to Old Mission are much farther from home. TAG is less centrally located. Complicates transportation for all students affected.

Facility Options
Key Facility Question Should the District consider increasing the average enrollment of our elementary buildings by closing one or more elementary facilities to realize savings that could be used to offset projected deficits or enhance programming? Facility Options “ Analyze efficiency and effectiveness of buildings relative to enrollment, programs, and resources.” The Charge from the Board of Education
Facility options do not impact average class size. No building will house more than 450 students. Schools will continue to be community facilities. Early childhood, special education, art and music are high priorities and will continue. Facility Assumptions Facility Options
