So What’s the Difference? “ When learners articulate what they have learned and reflect on the processes and decisions that were entailed by the process, they understand more and are better able to use the knowledge they have constructed.” ~ Meaningful Learning, David Jonassen
Technology Use Simply using technology does not allow students to become fully engaged in classroom tasks There is no deeper learning involved just by using technology
Technology Use (Examples) Overhead projectors Internet browsing The use of computers
Technology Integration Integrating technology should serve as a vehicle for professional development Technology should be integrated into the lesson, rather than being a completely separate subject Integrate technology in a way that supports learning in the content areas
Technology Integration (Examples) Google Earth : can be integrated into Geography lessons to show actual location or distance Digital Cameras : can be integrated into projects about summer vacation or finding certain animals/plants in a Biology lesson
So, How is it Done? The integration of technology in a lesson begins with the teacher Keep the lesson complicated enough, yet simple enough so that students are not bored or stressed with the level of difficulty Have fun with it! Good luck!
