Plan your classroom set-up by answering the following questions:
1. Where will your desk go?
2. Where will you run your guided reading groups?
3. Where will you have your meeting area and do whole class mini-lessons? Do you have
an area large enough for your class to sit on the floor close to you?
4. Where will you place your anchor charts?
5. Where will your bulletin boards for reading be?
6. Where will your word study boards be?
7. Where will students get their materials (paper, reading folders, writing utensils,
markers, highlighters, etc.?
8. Where will you conference with individual or pairs of students?
9. Where will you place your leveled library?
10. Where will students keep their book bags?
11. Where will the listening center be?
12. Where will students write?
13. Where will students work on word study?
14. Where will students utilize technology?
15. Does your classroom have good traffic flow?
16. Other?
Classroom Routines and Procedures Template:
Refer to your classroom set-up to determine the following:
1. How will you get your student’s attention?
2. How will you model for your students to gather at the meeting area and what behavior
expectations do you have for your students while there?
3. How will you model for your students where to acquire their materials?
4. How will you model for your students their expectations for silent reading?
5. How will you model for your students their expectations for partner reading?
6. How will you model for your students their expectations for listening to reading?
7. How will you model for your students their expectations for shared reading?
8. How will you model for your students their expectations for mini-lessons?
9. How will you model for your students their expectations for word study?
10. How will you model for your students how to stop what they are doing and come to
the meeting area?
11. How will you dismiss students from the meeting area?
