- 1. Textual Analysis- The Dark Knight Eloise Neath
- 2. What I liked from the opening? • Within the first scene, it shows the audience the location of where the film will be taking place (the city). I find this very interesting as it is giving the audience a bigger idea to how the story plot will end up. Also they introduce the characters more into the film as this keeps the audience guessing to what they will be like throughout. • Throughout the first scene, it grabs the audience and keeps them hooked all the way through the film. This also relates back to the genre of the film. • On this specific screenshot of the film, I really like the way they focus on the clown mask. It provides an enigma code as it makes the audience think about what the mask means and what it will bring. Also it is a great representation of who the villain is within the film and why he hides behind a character such as the joker.
- 3. Mise-en-scene • Throughout the clips, there are heavy use of props used within such as guns, fast cars and high sky liners. These relate back to the genre of the film (superhero/action). The props reinforce the power of the characters meaning they tell a bigger story to the audience. • The clothes of the big gang that is situated within the film show that they are all part of the same team. This conclusion shows to be wrong as they start to kill each other towards the end.

Sound • The first bit of sound being introduced within the film is a piece of non- diegetic sound which creates a sense of thrill as it is quite creepy music as it is focusing on the mask of the character creating the viewer to wonder what the mask will hold. The slow zoom creates tension and helps the audience have a clear view on what the mask looks like. • When the characters start to give diegetic sound, they emphasise the name ‘joker’ as this shows he is a main character within the film and helps set up the rest of the plot, creating the idea of the ‘joker’ being the villian.

Editing •Most of the editing within the first scenes is the cross cutting between the different characters to show the different personalities they have meaning they get a different perspective across to the audience. •When they use the props of the guns etc. They cut to different shots of the characters to show emphasis on the facial expressions they have and other gestures they give to the actions that are being taken.
