DEVELOPMENT AND USE OF NON-DIGITAL OR
CONVENTIONAL MATERIALS
Teaching become rewarding when learners get the most from instruction
-this become an important element in engaging learners is when strategy
used in delivering the lesson involves the use of instructional materials.
Particularly, when properly selected and appropriately identified.
Though it may no longer represent the uniqueness and
sophistication but their usefulness still present significant
contribution to its effective delivery for good instruction.

In this lesson the students must be able to:
1. identify the different types of conventional media equipment and
conventional media materials
2. Distinguish the different as to function, selecting, designing,
crating.
3. Describe the factors to consider in revising media selection and
delivery system for given instruction.

VISUAL MEDIA
-Educational research has shown that learners learn better from words and
Pictures than words alone(Mayer,2001 as cited in Clark & Lyons 2004).
Visuals are anything like pictures that is used to make something more
appealing or easier to understanding.
Visual media refers to images, pictures, and graphic
organizers that are being used in the classroom.

Visual Literacy is the ability to interpret images
Roblyer and Bennett(2001), insist that it is essential that
visual literacy skills be added to a growing list of new
capabilities.

VISUAL MEDIA
-How does one to become visual literate?
Christopherson(1997) proposes that a visually literate student would
have the following:
1. Interpreting skills, understanding and appreciating the
meaning visual messages.
2. Communicating more effectively through applying the
basic principles and concepts of visual design;
3. Using visual thinking to conceptualize solutions
to problems.

Purposes ofVisuals
Smaldino(2012) enumerated seven purposes why we use visuals in the
classrooms.
1.Provide a concrete referent for ideas
With the use of visual materials, students can remember
2.Make abstract ideas concrete.
It is easy to illustrate abstract ideas if students see something concrete
3. Motivate learners
Using visuals helps motivate students to be engaged in lesson

4.Direct attention to important points
It draws student attention to what is being shown in the visual.Visual pointers may be color,
the use of arrows, icons, shading or animations.
5. Repeat information.
The information presented can be easily understood.
6. Recall prior learning
Visuals can be used to remember previous learning, a stepping-stone
