The ant worked hard all summer to store food for the winter while the grasshopper played. When winter came, the grasshopper had no food while the ant, safe and warm in her home, had plenty of stored provisions. The grasshopper regretted not having worked like the ant as it now faced hunger and cold weather. The story teaches the importance of preparing for the future.
