Stages of the Design Process
Order Process Define Order Process Define
1 The client is who you are being approached
and commissioned by to create your design
outcome.
2 The brief is the short statement from the
client that describes what they want from
you- it can be very vague, or quite detailed.
3 The problem is what the brief wants you to
tackle in order to complete the brief.
4 When you will undergo informative
exploration of other sources that relate to
the brief and the idea you need to make.
5 Specification is when you are able to add
more specified details to the brief, this could
be done by writing rules that the prototype
should meet.
6 This is when you begin to generate potential
ideas for the design outcome- they can be
very rough and unrefined.
7 This is when I apply my critical mind to my
ideas so far and decide which elements
work and which can be developed or
dropped.
8 Synthesis is when you take certain aspects of
your different ideas and merge them in a
way, into one solidified and considered
idea/prototype.
9 Creating a smaller scale/cheaper material
version of the final idea- there can be
several of these.
10 After receiving feedback from your
prototypes, you can then refine them in
terms of materials, composition, etc.
11 The moment when you realise your final
idea, and create it.
12 An objective and subject review of my
product and it’s suitability for purpose. An
honest review of my project management
and performance.
