The Beery VMI is a developmental test that assesses visual-motor integration through copying geometric forms. It is designed to help identify children who may need assistance and to evaluate the effectiveness of educational interventions. The test uses simple shapes because children from different backgrounds have varying experiences with alphabets and numbers. Successful development in humans and other organisms is characterized by increasing coordination between individual parts and the whole. The Beery VMI aims to help children progress in integrating their physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual facets.
