  The Doctrine of Salvation

       By Kevin G. Smith
Welcome

Welcome to this course on The Doctrine of
Salvation.
If you have taken a number of courses with SATS
before, you will immediately realise that this
course looks different to the others.
Indeed, this is a new approach that may be the
future of SATS. Let us explain.

Course Introduction
A NEW APPROACH

Course Introduction
A New Approach
                             This is something of an
                             experimental course. In the
                             past, the download and e-
                             learning versions of the course
                             were separate. In this
                             experiment, we have brought
                             the two together and given
                             you the freedom to choose
                             which assessment tasks you
                             will take to complete the
                             course.

Course Introduction
A New Approach
If this approach works
well, we shall probably
introduce it in other
courses. We would
greatly value your feed-
back as to how you
experienced this hybrid
approach. (We hope you
like it.)

Course Introduction
SELECTION OF ASSESSMENTS

Course Introduction
Selection of Assessments
                              The most important change is
that you now have a selection
                              of assessment tasks. You can
                              follow the traditional route
                              (essays plus examination), or
                              you may substitute one or
                              more of those with interactive
                              forum-based tasks. In short,
                              you can choose the assess-
                              ments that you prefer.

Course Introduction
Selection of Assessments
Question Answer
What will happen if I choose to You are only required to
do all the assessment tasks? complete three of the six
                                  assessment tasks, but you are
                                  welcome to submit more. If
you submit both options for a
                                  given assessment, only your
                                  highest grade will count
                                  towards your course grade.

Course Introduction
WEEKLY FORMAT

Course Introduction
Weekly Format

Another big change is that the course page is
divided into study weeks. Starting from the
official starting date of the course, it shows the
start and end date of each week. It also shows
the suggested study topic for each week. Under
each week, additional helpful tools will be made
available. The current week will always be
highlighted on the course page.
Course Introduction
Weekly Format
Why the week-by-week
approach? The primary
objective is to help you
pace your studies, by
giving you a clear
indication of what you
should complete each
week to keep on track
with the course deadlines.

Course Introduction
Weekly Format
Why the week-by-week
approach? The secondary
advantage is that it allows
us to provide various
other features to enrich
the course. These might
include presentations,
videos, opinion polls, and
so on.

Course Introduction
Weekly Format
Question Answer
Do I have to work according to No, the week-by-week break-
the weekly timetable? down is just a guide. You may
start early and run well in
                                 advance of the suggested
timeline, or you may begin late
and catch up as the course
                                 progresses.

                                 But please note the following:

Course Introduction
Weekly Format
Question Answer
Do I have to work according to 1. The assessment tasks must
the weekly timetable? be completed by the due
                                    dates. You may submit
                                    them early, but not late.

                                 2. Certain features designed
                                    to enrich the course will
                                    only be available during the
                                    week to which they are
                                    related.
Course Introduction
Expert Tip

If having to scroll across all the weeks does not
appeal to you, you can have MySats show only
one week. At the top right corner of each week
there is a little square. If you click on the square,
MySats will hide all the other weeks. To show all
the weeks again, just click on the square once
more.

VALUE-ADDING FEATURES

Course Introduction
Value-Adding Features
                                 This course design allows
us to make available to all
                                 students some value-
                                 adding features that were
                                 previously reserved to e-
                                 learning courses. We trust
                                 that these optional extras
                                 will enrich the course for
                                 you.

Course Introduction
Value-Added Features
1. Week-by-Week Guide. This tells you exactly how
far you should be with the study materials and
assessment tasks, and what you should do each
   week.
2. Opinion Polls. The weekly opinion poll related to
the topic of the unit provides a fun way for you to
tell us your opinion and to see what the general
   view is in the class.

Course Introduction
Value-Added Features
3. PowerPoint Presentations. Presentations like this
one provide a convenient way to share important
   information and summarise content.
4. YouTube Videos. We shall occasionally feature a
YouTube video related to the topic of the unit.
5. Expert Lectures. We shall provide links to some
   related lectures by world-class theologians.

Course Introduction
Value-Added Features
Question Answer
Do I have to make use of these No, not at all! They are 100
additional features? per cent optional. You can
                                 ignore every single one of
                                 them and still pass with
                                 distinction. They are provided
to add value and enrich the
course for those who wish to
make use of them. (We hope
                                 you will find them helpful.)
