This document discusses several studies that have examined the effects of computers, video games, and social media like Facebook on human behavior and well-being. Regarding video games and aggression, lab studies have found that playing violent video games can increase physiological arousal and hostile feelings. Longitudinal studies have also linked frequent playing of violent video games to increased aggressive behavior in children. However, it is difficult to determine causation from these studies. Some research also suggests positive impacts of certain video games and activities like increasing helpful behavior and potentially reducing traumatic memories. Regarding social media, studies have linked Facebook use to both increased stress and lower grades in some cases, though the evidence is limited and relationships unclear.
