Collins

Shot Number 1
• Type of Shot/Camera Movement: establishing shot, follow shot following
the movements of a jet. Fast cut ending first shot to change the scene and
setting.
• Dialogue/Sound: slow tempo, dull simple music bed, creating a serious
atmosphere.
• Mise en Scene: The jet looks futuristic highlighting the Fantasy/ Adventure
genre of the film.

Shot Number 2
• Type of shot/ Camera movement: Medium
close up shot, eye level angle, very gradual
slight zoom occurs, emphasizing the subjects
expression, very subtle camera shake,
indicating they are inside the jet. Cut used to
vary the point of view into the next shot.
• Dialogue/Sound: “I never wanted any of
this” non-diegetic (voice over) with music
bed again reinforcing the serious mood.
• Mise en Scene: Katniss is surrounded by
other people, all wearing similar clothes
which consist of dull colours indicating they
are part of a team. Their surroundings look
like an inside of a jet, again there is a
similarity in colours.
The hunger games mockingjay part 1
Shot Number 3
• Type of shot/ Camera movement: fade in edit, hand held shot, a lot of
camera shake occurs in this shot reinforcing the movement of the jet.
Another cut is used to switch to the following scene.
• Dialogue/Sound: “I never wanted to be in the games” her voice holds a
sad emotion, automatically gaining sympathy from the viewer. The music
bed still playing.
• Mise en Scene: The interior of the jet is on full display during this shot.
The shot is extremely dark, the only source of light coming from the open
doors of the jet (which is still moving.) The use of this light casts a
silhouette/ shadow over Katniss enhancing her body form, which comes
off as strong, but also highlights her weapons (the bow and arrow.)
Shot Number 4
• Type of Shot/ Camera Movement: Over the shoulder shot, slightly blurred
due to lighting and closeness of the subjects, straight cut to a different POV.
• Dialogue/Sound: “I just wanted to save my sister” Music bed.
• Mise en scene: The lighting in this shot implies of a calm happy atmosphere,
which reinforces the dialogue within the shot, which shows her affection
towards her sister.
The hunger games mockingjay part 1
Shot Number 5
• Type of shot/ Camera Movement: Simple cut with no fade in or fade out
effects used. Over the shoulder shot which is normally used to signify
conversations.
• Dialogue/Sound: Continuing from previous shot… (Male voice President
Snow.) “It’s the things we love most” the rest of the sentence will obviously
been continued into the next shot.
• Mise en scene: There are three people shown in this shot, 1 being the main
subject (Katniss Everdeen) President Snow (the elderly male shown on the
projector), and a male whose face cannot be seen, facing the screen. They
appear to be in a control room/centre, again reinforcing the image of war,
the only lighting in this shot is powered by computer and projector
monitors.
The hunger games mockingjay part 1
Shot Number 6
• Type of shot/Camera Movement: The cut used is quick, there is a
moment of blackness between shots which has been used
throughout the trailer to separate shots, however in this shot, it is
used for a longer time for dramatic effect. There is a slight zoom
evident, again heightening the drama. They have used the same
shot as the previous shot because there is still a conversation
occurring. The cut used at the end of this scene is sharp and again
goes to blackness, this is where the shift in the trailer occurs.
• Dialogue/Sound: “…that destroy us” President Snow ends his
conversation, his choice of words throughout the three shots. “Miss
Everdeen, it’s the things we love the most, that destroy us.” His
choice of words are patronising and overly dramatic, as well as the
thought out pauses adds an awful amount of tension to the trailer.
• Mise en scene: The scene is exactly the same as the previous shot,
the camera has zoomed in slightly. President Snows face is more
defined showing his emotion and clear distaste towards Katniss.
