This study examined the prevalence of Salmonella enterica and Shigella flexneri in fresh fish products from informal markets near Lake Hawassa and Lake Ziway in Ethiopia, finding that 55% of the 60 samples tested positive for these pathogens. Specifically, S. enterica was found in 30% of the samples, while S. flexneri was found in 25%. The results highlight significant public health concerns related to foodborne diseases and emphasize the need for improved hygiene practices and regular inspections in fish processing.
