The Use of Classroom Technology in Teaching Science
OVERVIEW:
The effective use of technology in education has
changed the face of education and it has created
more educational opportunities. Both teachers and
students have benefited from various educational
technologies, teachers have learned how to
integrate technology in their classrooms and
students are getting more interested in learning
with technology. The use of technology in
education has removed educational boundaries,
both students and teachers can collaborate in real
time using advanced educational technologies.
Classroom
◇ a room in a school where
lessons take place.
Technology
the application of scientific knowledge
to the practical aims of human life or, as it
is sometimes phrased, to the change and
manipulation of the human environment.
Technology
Any modification of the natural
world done to fulfill human needs
or desires.
Computer

Education and Its
Effectiveness
Computer Technology in
Education and Its Effectiveness
1.Computer technology can be used for
visual illustrations.
Students can learn more when teachers
teach them using visual illustrations.
Computer Technology in
Education and Its Effectiveness
2.Computer technology can be used in
long distance learning.
Many students have used computer technologies
to learn from any were , computer gadgets like
iPads can access internet from any where and they
can allow students to attend remote classes.
Computer Technology in
Education and Its Effectiveness
3.Computer technology can be used in
real-time education.
This makes learning easy because students
can easily interact with those live examples,
which simplifies the way they learn.
HOW TEACHERS
USE TECHNOLOGY
IN THE CLASSROOM
◇ Administration and monitoring
student performance
Teachers can use online technology tools and
computers to administer and track the performance
of their students.
How Teachers Use
Technology in the Classroom
◇ Use Internet for research purposes and to
drive real-time examples to students
Teachers can use the internet in the classroom to
conduct research on specific subjects and derive real-
time examples to their students.
How Teachers Use
Technology in the Classroom
◇ Create a class website or blog and
post assignments, provide file
downloads and arguments on various
academic topics
Teachers can use free CMS (content management
systems) like wordpress.com or blogger.com.

Challenges of
New Technology
for Teachers
Challenges of New
Technology for Teachers
◇ Lack of Professional development
Teachers feel unprepared to learn and integrate
technology in their classrooms. There is a lack of
training programs to teach these teachers on ways
they can use technology to simplify their job and
also make it easier for their students to learn
better.
◇ Resistance to change
Using technology in the classroom can be so
demanding during the first phase of introduction
because students will always need your help, and
this scares many teachers, but in the long run,
each student will know what to do, and your work
will be simplified.
Challenges of New
Technology for Teachers
◇ Lack of Innovation
Using technological tools requires a certain degree
of creativity. Some people learn easily without any
help from a technical personal, while others will
take a while to master how to use specific
technological tools and integrate that experience
towards solving a problem.
Challenges of New
Technology for Teachers
◇ Access
Many schools and teachers have no accesses
to technological tools like smart whiteboards
and projectors which can be used in visual
illustrations in the classroom.

technology.
“
Technology should not replace
teachers. Its main use is to
enable students learn better
through increasing their
engagement in educational
activities.
“
Technology is not having cool ipads
or expensive gadgets; it is about
the learning process. Technology
has to improve the learning process
and aim at improving student’s
grades.
“
Technology has to facilitate
and stimulate individual
learning. Students should use
technology to learn on their
own with limited help from
teachers.

Editor's Notes

  • #11: The main job of a teacher is to help students understand specific subject matter. So technology has to be tailored or used just to make this process easier for the teacher.
  • #12: One of the most important online tools teachers can use to administer and keep up with their students is Piazza.com. This application will allow teachers to manage course work and also enable them to answer questions asked by their students. Teachers can create classrooms on this platform, and posts subjects to be discussed on, then students in the classroom can get involved and exchange ideas about that particular subject
  • #13: To achieve this, a teacher can decide to use a computer, a projector and a white board to display live data from the internet to the students in the classroom. Teachers can use websites like ‘‘Youtube.com‘‘ to illustrate subjects in a video format and this will take the students attention which will improve on the way students learn while in the classroom. Our brains can easily remember visual effects, because we even get flashbacks of those images or videos while not in the classroom.
  • #14: These platforms can allow you to create a free website using a sub-domain name.
  • #15: barriers of effective technology Some of the benefits of using technology in education can include ; easy access to academic information , ability to learn easily which results from the use visual learning in classrooms which is facilitated by technological tools like smart white boards, ability to learn from anywhere.
  • #16: When it comes to remote schools or low level classes, teacher will act as a link between students and technology, because these students are not well informed on how to use technological tools like computers in the classroom. So if teachers have no training skills on using technology for educational purpose, then students will also miss out on these skills. This is a common practice in public schools, because private schools are business entities which are operated on competitive advantage, so they emphasize the use of technology in the class and their teachers are well trained and well equipped with technological tools for education.
  • #17: not having enough computers, not getting enough technical training, then other teachers argue that the process of learning technology and how to integrate it in education take too much time, then there others, who feel that technology might replace them, so instead of losing their jobs and old methodology of teaching, they refuse to use technology in education.
  • #18: The most challenging thing about technology is that, you do not stop at learning how it works and how to use it. But you must also find ways of integrating it in most of the things you do on a daily basis. So if you learn how to type and save data, you must also find ways on how that skill can help you in other aspects. Technological tools are designed to do more than just one task. Now that our level of learning, understanding and integrating is different, some teachers will shy away from the use of technology for educational purposes.
  • #19: the lack of effective access to technological tools has also acted as a great barrier towards the effective use of technology in education Some schools do not have enough computers and they even lack access to internet which can be of a great use in academic research and remote learning.
  • #20: TRANSFORMATION - technology tools are used to facilitate higher oerder learning activities that may not have been possible without the use of technology.
