Summary The Subject of TOK is the nature of knowledge and experience, and its impact on the life of the individual, groups and society The Content of TOK is a series of questions about areas of knowledge, ways of knowing, knowers and knowing, ranging from scientific to aesthetic, from ethical to common sense

Summary Continued The Process of TOK is critical reflection or “deep thinking” about knowledge issues, public discussions, group dialogue, and articulating views in written text. The Goal of TOK is to understand what it means to know or believe something, and what responsible action flows from such knowledge/belief that is learned wisdom

The Commitment of TOK is to understand via Dialogue , to become insightful by appreciating Alternative perspectives, and to help “knowers” become increasingly perceptive and compassionate.

Assessment Part I- External , one essay (1200-1600 words) chosen from a list of 10 questions judged using the following criteria. -Understanding knowledge issues -Knowers Perspective -Quality of analysis of knowledge issues -Organization of Ideas (40 points) Up to 3 bonus points may be awarded towards the IB Diploma According to the overall performance of students on TOK and Extended Essay assessment. This is done using an IB rubric.

Internal Assessment Presentation- Approximately 10 minutes per student up to 30 minutes for groups (Maximum size 5)This involves at least one presentation to the class and one written document in two parts: a) concise planning document stating the knowledge issue and approach, and b) a presentation marking form-given to students. (20 Points 5% of Presentations must be videotaped)

Incorporating TOK into lesson(s) Create a lesson plan that incorporates TOK approach into your IB Diploma course. Place it in the TOK folder in the IB Diploma section of the Kabiraserver. Teach the lesson sometime during the course next year. Include a short note based on the result of your experience teaching the lesson. Presentations or essays are recommended as these are assessments used for TOK
