extract water from sewage sludge – a simple and cheap process that process that not only
reduces the sludge considerably in terms of volume but also saves truck mileage and C02
emissions.

6. SOLARBATCH DRYING: THE ELECTRIC MOLE
The Electric Mole can dry sludge either in batches or as a
semi-continuous process – with guaranteed optimum drying
performance at all times, i.e. no matter what the sludge
properties, energy input and weather conditions are like.
Only 3 steps required.
SOLARFLOW DRYING: THE SLUDGE MANAGER
The SludgeManager unites the benefits of a fully automated
procedure with the advantages of the well-established
Electric Mole: sturdiness, simple maintenance and a robust
stainless steel construction.
What differentiates the SludgeManager from the Electric Mole
is that it can transport the sludge lengthwise and in lateral
direction, allowing the plant to be operated continuously with
any number of points at which to load or unload the sludge.
THE STORAGE DRYER
The storage dryer concept is the simplest, cheapest and
most environmentally friendly solution for small municipalities:
fully automatic drying and sludge storage combined in a
single system. Sludge is introduced year-round on a fully
automatic basis, while the plant only needs to be emptied
once a year, offering a maximum of operational reliability with
a minimum of work effort.

7. Incoming solar radiation is captured by the transparent building shell (1)
and used to evaporate the water (greenhouse effect). Moving fans (2)
inside the building maintain an optimal air flow over the drying good. The
exchange of air between the inside and outside is optimized using
speed-controlled wall fans (6). The system can be optimised by Floor or
Air heating (3)
The Electric Mole (4) turns and mixes the sewage sludge in an entirely
automated process. All system components are controlled via a central
PLC equipped with ClimaControl software using sensors inside and out
(5).
This fully automated system always ensures optimal drying conditions.
ClimaControl is the product of 20 years' experience and optimization
work.
Instead of using costly bridge-type machines, the SolarBatch system
uses a fully automated robot, the Electric Mole, to turn the sludge.
The sludge is fed into the system using a loader or an automatic feed
system (e.g. pumps) or by simply tipping it onto the drying area.

11. The wet material is feed to the dryer through the top via a feeder (A). The
material then travels inside the machine on the conveyor belts in a S
form. As the material travels inside both horizontally and vertically, hot air
is supplied to the system with the help of a heat exchanger (C) on the
opposite side of the dryer.
The Heat exchanger is used to produce hot air via heating mediums
available including waste heat recovery systems. The air management is
controlled via a PLC system.
During the drying cycle a lot of air cycles are enacted which is then
pushed through the exhaust system passing through an Air scrubber (D)
and chemical washer for air treatment (E).
As the material travels through the entire conveyor length, it is dried
under the designed circumstances and then delivered at the exit point
(B) where a screw conveyor delivers it outside the drying chamber.
