KEY CONCEPTS
Break Strength
• The weight a tile can withstand unsupported before breaking
o ANSI standard for floor tile is minimum 250 lb break strength
• Most porcelains being laid today are 550 lb break strength
• Some commercial tiles are up to 1,000 lb break strength
o Crossville Porcelains & Florida Tile Urbanite are excellent examples
Class Rating / PEI Rating
• 0-5 rating, usually found on packaging for the tile
o 0 rating is only appropriate for wall use
o 5 rating denotes industrial / commercial grade tile made
for the extreme heavy use areas
INDUSTRY TERMS
Chipping
• Chipped edges require additional work and often results in high waste
• A “chip free cut” is the single most important performance criteria for a
diamond blade or bit
Blown out corners
• Leads to cracked corners post-install and requires tiles to be removed
and reinstalled
• Usually evidence of a dull or poorly matched blade/application
Speed of cut
• Important only after above issues are addressed
• Labor is #1 cost driver for tile jobs and impacts a contractors profit at
the end of the job
Blade life
• Least important of all factors and hard to judge over time
IMPORTANCE OF QUALITY PRODUCTS
Glass
• Most difficult product to work with
• Hugely popular in a variety of sizes and applications
• Often mixed with other types to create attractive mosaic patterns
• Can only be cut with a glass specific blade
Porcelain
• Extremely dense and prone to chipping; often glazed
• Most popular style for use in heavy traffic, wet,
or food prep environments
Ceramic
• Softer material less prone to chipping
• Popular for wall tiles and for lower cost installs
Natural stone tile
• Grouped in with Ceramic tile for tool diagnosis purposes
• Wide variety of colors and styles

Variable speed motor:
• Variable speed motor allows you to match RPM to bit size,
increasing life and performance
• Traditional grinders run at 13,300 RPM, suggested RPM for an
1-3/8” hole saw is approximately 6,800 RPM
• Because of drastic differences in speeds, we can only guarantee
bit life when using our entire system
Bit Template:
• The drill bit template is often discarded after a user becomes
familiar with utilizing our drilling system
• The template utilizes a suction cup to adhere to a drilling
surface, and an adjustable plate to fit a variety of hole saw
diameters

Tile Products
PART 3: THE BLADES
Typical Uses:
• For cutting glass tile
• Most glass applications are in mosaic or small subway
tile sizes, but larger format tiles are coming
Advantages:
• Can cleanly cut glass tiles with minimal chipping to both
the face and paper backer
• Capable of cutting Glass, Porcelain, Ceramic, and
Natural tiles
Other Considerations :
• Priced higher when compared to other diamond blades
• Cutting speed is slower than conventional tile blades
• Will experience slow speeds and excessive wear if used
on materials other than glass
GLASS TILE BLADES
TL10GBT Shown
Typical Uses:
• Designed for cutting the most critically hard porcelains
with minimal chipping
• Porcelain tile ranges from small format mosaics to
5’x10’ thin panels
• Porcelain tile is appropriate for use in any environment
Advantages:
• Extremely thin kerf cutting edge and reinforcing hub
combine for a very fast, precise, and chip free cut
• Bonded to perform well in 1,000lb break strength,
Class 5 porcelains
Other Considerations :
• Reinforcing hub can get in the way during notch cuts
o Requires installer to flip tile to square up a corner rather than
lifting the tile at the end of a cut
BEAST BP SERIES PORCELAIN BLADES

PART 5: HANDS ON
Adjust the saw head so that the blade is as low as possible
• This minimizes the amount of diamond rim contacting the tile
at one time, reducing the likelihood of chipping
Adjust water flow and nozzles so that sufficient water is
being delivered at the point of cut
• Uneven or insufficient water flow can create a number of
problems including: ruining your blade, uneven blade wear,
excess chipping
Maintain even pressure as you move the sliding tray or
hand held saw forward through the material
The final, cut edge is of the most importance, take your
time and allow the tool to do the work
PROPER CUTTING TECHNIQUE
