Time ConnectivesExposition Writing
Time ConnectivesTime connectives are conjunctions (joins phrases or sentences together)that give us an idea of when something happens. Using connectives can make writing flow better.
This is a list of time connectives.before, after, until, since, later, earlier, firstly, secondly, thirdly (and so on), finally initially, then, just, then, shortly, afterwards, soon.
The time connectives we are focussing on are:FirstlySecondlyFinally
Firstly, Secondly, and FinallyWhen we are writing exposition pieces we will be using these time connectives in our arguments because it is a useful way to list ideas. They help us give a structured view of what we are writing.
Firstly, Secondly, and FinallyIts also a good way to keep track of how many arguments we have (first, second, third,.....etc arguments).Once you have advanced in your writing you will be able to use other time connectives that make your writing flow even better.
Animals in Cages	The children and teachers in Kindergarten at Matraville P.S. have been discussing animals in cages. We think they shouldn’t be kept in cages. Firstly, not all animals are dangerous. A pet cat likes people and it wouldn’t hurt you.Secondly, there isn’t enough room for the animals to run around.	They would get bored and it would be bad for their muscles. Finally, the animals have to be fed by the keeper and they don’t know how to feed themselves, how to find their food and how to hunt.
Practise using time connectives.Pretend your writing an exposition piece on why dogs are better than cats.Think of three viewpoints for the argument section for this topic and using the time connectives firstly, secondly and finally write them down.(Remember each viewpoint is a new paragraph).
