OBJECTIVES
To enable teacher trainees to learn and assimulate
new teaching skills under controlled conditions.
To enable teacher trainees to gain confidence in
teaching and to master a number of skills by
dealing with a small group of pupils.
o Time duration for teaching is from 5 to 10 minutes.
o Immediate feedback is achieved.
o Teaching is carried out in a controlled condition.
o Teaching is relatively simple.
o Teacher takes up one skill at a time.
o Class consists of a small group of 5-10 students.
o Role of supervisor is specific and well defined to
improve teaching.

Knowledge acquisition phase :Observing the
demonstration of the skill and analysing it and
discussing about the demonstration.
Skill acquisition phase :Preparing the microlesson
involving the skill while teaching.
Transfer phase :Evaluating performance through
feedback.Re-plan ,re-teach , and transfer of skill to
actual class teaching in macro sessions.
CORE TEACHING SKILLS
Skill of introducing a lesson.
Skill of blackboard writing.
Skill of questioning.
Skill of stimulus variation.
Skill of explaining.
Skill of demonstration.
Skill of probing questioning.
Skill of illustrating with examples.
Skill of reinforcement.
Skill of promoting pupil participation.
STEPS
• Defining the skills.
• Demonstration of the skill.
• Presentation of a lessonplan by the teacher trainee.
• Teaching in the presence of observers.
• Immediate feedback to the teacher trainee by the
observers.
• Arranging re-planning, re-teaching, re-feedback
sessions.
• Repetition of microteaching cycle till the skill is
acquired.
ADVANTAGES
 It employs real teaching for the purpose of
developing skills.
 It is more effective in modifying teacher behavior.
 It is an effective technique for transfer of teaching
competencies to classroom.
 It helps gain deeper knowledge due to feedback
and re-plan, re-teach cycles.
DISADVANTAGES
 It is a skill oriented; content is not emphasized.
 It emphasizes specific skills; but neglects
integrated skills.
 It covers only a few specific skills.
 It may raise administrative problems while
arranging micro lessons.
