TIPS WHEN MAKING
PRESENTATIONS
A lot of current tips and techniques you will find on presenting are
focused on either
 how to make a lovely power point file mostly about the uniformity of
font, format, spacing, design or
 how to deliver including hand gesture, posture, tone of voice,
confidence etc.
But let’s start with
What are the top 3
tips you should
know when making
presentations?
Tip number 1:
Don’t start with creating a power
point file.
TIP NUMBER 1:
DON’T START WITH CREATING A
POWER POINT FILE.
Starting with a power point file will
make you engrossed with the
aesthetics of your presentation.
Instead, start with a blank sheet of
paper and write down your thoughts.

Topic 2:
TIP NUMBER 1:
DON’T START WITH MAKING A POWER
POINT FILE.
Outline your thoughts.
 What is the coverage of your
presentation?
 What are the most important
messages you need to say?
 What will be the flow of your
message?
 What are the examples you need to
give, charts, figures, etc?

Topic 2:
Tip number 2:
Create your “story”.
Nothing beats a
highly organized presentation.
TIP NUMBER 2:
CREATE YOUR “STORY”.
The worst case that could happen is when you jump from one topic
to another with an awful transition (and I don’t mean animation).
Think about the “story” you would like to say to make your
presentation cohesive.
 Start with the background of your presentation
 Then tell your objectives (give a snapshot of what you want to happen at the end
your presentation)
 And then give the meat of your presentation
 Make sure you are thoughtful with your presentation flow
 Finally wrap-it-up.
TIP NUMBER 2:
CREATE YOUR “STORY”.
Presentation is all about changing the view of your audience from
one point to another.
Think how will you be able to do that. What are the most important
things that your audience need to hear for them to change their
view? Work your way through those.
TIP NUMBER 2:
CREATE YOUR “STORY”.
Aim for this:
A B
YOUR PRESENTATION
TIP NUMBER 2:
CREATE YOUR “STORY”.
Not this:
A B
YOUR PRESENTATION
TIP NUMBER 2:
CREATE YOUR “STORY”.
Tip number 3:
Make an
impact.
Your audience will naturally be eager to hear all you want to say and
sadly will also naturally be eager to reject or forget.
Focus on the most important things!
Don’t expect your audience to be glued on you all throughout your
presentation.
TIP NUMBER 3:
MAKE AN IMPACT.
Do not load them with info, charts or figures.
Your audience can only remember so much.
What are the top things they need to remember after listening to
your presentation?
TIP NUMBER 3:
MAKE AN IMPACT.
SO REMEMBER!
1. Don’t start with creating a power point file.
2. Create your “story”.
3. Make an impact.
