Tipu Sultan, known as the 'Tiger of Mysore', was a prominent ruler and military leader of the Kingdom of Mysore, who succeeded his father, Haider Ali, in 1782. He was an ardent proponent of Islam, implementing extensive religious reforms, including the promotion of Islamic education and the replacement of the Hindu calendar with an Islamic one. Tipu Sultan bravely resisted British expansion until his defeat and death during the siege of Srirangapatam in 1799.
