What is a multimedia classroom? The primary use of these facilities is to meet the technology needs of faculty, students, and special workshops in a scheduled instructional environment  A multi-media classroom is a classroom setup with a computer and projector In multi-media classrooms faculty and students can access the internet, DVD player and other audiovisual content to enhance learning experiences
What Equipment can you expect to find in a multimedia classroom At a minimal you will find Windows XP Based PC Internal DVD/CD player Overhead LCD Display  LCD Remote Wireless keyboard and mouse (Keep in mind there are variations of the Multimedia classroom)
Trouble shooting 101 Issues with the Computer system What to do if the computer is not on If the screen says "No Signal" or is blank, and you do not hear the fans whirl make sure the computer has been turned on. To turn the computer on Check the power cord to verify it is firmly set. Verify that the Power-strip and/or UPS are on and functioning  Verify the AC outlet is functioning Press and hold the power button down for a few seconds If unresolved, document and escalate  to create a helpdesk case .
Trouble shooting 101 Issues with the Computer system What to do if the computer freezes?     First, wait for several seconds. Give it time.  If the computer is really frozen, press  CTRL-ALT-DEL .  This will invoke the task manager which will allow you to terminate an unresponsive program.  If nothing else works, re-start the computer If you can't even access the  Start  button to restart the computer, hold down the power button in the front of the computer for several seconds.  If unresolved , Document and escalate so a helpdesk case can be created
No video displayed on PC monitor Ensure that all cables and connections are firmly secured Verify that the AC cord to the monitor is firmly secured Verify that the Monitor is getting power, check the UPS, power strip and AC socket  Make sure the power button has been pressed Move the mouse around and press some keys on the keyboard, the system maybe  in standby mode. Reboot the system Remove the VGA cable, if the monitor states no video signal it may be the video card try reseating the video card on the Mainboard Try a different monitor  If Unresolved document and escalate so a helpdesk case can be created
Audio Issues Make sure all the cables are firmly connected. Check the taskbar speaker icon and double click and ensure the volume is at an appropriate level, and the mute is unchecked.  Double check with in the program that you are using, to verify the volume is at an appropriate level
Audio issues continued …   Sound output does not work (can't hear music or sounds). Double-click on the volume control (little loudspeaker icon) in the lower right corner of the screen.  Make sure that the Mute box under Volume is  not  checked and that the volume is turned up.  If  there are speakers attached to the computer directly, make sure they are plugged in and turned on (there will usually be a small pilot light that indicates when they are turned on) and check volume control on the speakers or headphones - make sure it is not turned all the way down. They must be connected to the audio  output  socket on the back of the computer; this will be marked with a small picture of headphone or of a speaker.  Verify that the speakers are  not  connected to the microphone input (marked with a picture of a microphone).
Audio issues continued …   Sound output does not work (can't hear music or sounds). Make sure the cable is firmly plugged in.  If you have been working with several audio/video-related programs that have their own volume controls, such as Power DVD, Microsoft Media player Real Audio, MusicMatch, WinAmp, Quicktime, etc.  Open them up and make sure that their volume controls are turned up. If sound is not working only on one program, but other programs sound OK, then the problem is the settings of that program.  If there is a hissing sound despite your best tweaking efforts, it may be the amplifier  If Unresolved document and escalate so a helpdesk case can be created
Keyboard and Mouse issues If Mouse does not respond to movement  Make sure the mouse is inline with the sensor Press the button on top of the sensor, flip the mouse over press the button on the bottom Keyboard does not respond to typing Make sure it is inline with the sensor Press the button on top of the sensor, then flip over the keyboard and hit the little button on the bottom If all else fails, the  batteries  maybe dead, try replacing them If changing the batteries does not resolve the issue try swapping out the keyboard and/or mouse If  the issue is unresolved, document and escalate to create a helpdesk case.
Issues with the optical drive The drive has a disk stuck in it  Each drive have a small hole in the front  which will allow a straightened paper clip to be inserted.  Doing so will open the drive manually. If unresolved document and escalate to create a helpdesk case.
Issues with the optical drive The drive does not respond If there isn’t power try restarting the computer Be sure to watch for any light indicators on the CD-ROM  especially as it first boots up Try removing the CD-ROM drivers from Device Manager, shut down, restart, and let Windows reinstall the proper drivers for the CD-ROM Open case to verify that the IDE and power cord are connected Try swapping the optical drive If unresolved, document and escalate to create a helpdesk case.
Overhead projector issues Check to make sure the projector is on, and depicts a green status light. Verify that the projector has not been switched off with the standby or blank button on the remote control keypad. Verify that none of the keys on the keypad are stuck in the down position.  If you are trying to show a video source and the projector doesn't automatically detect a video signal press the video/source button on the remote.
Overhead projector issues Continued Do a cursory examine of the cables to verify they are in place Press the "Projector Off" button to completely shut down the projector. Wait until the LED on the projector have stopped flashing after the projector turns off before pressing the "Projector On" button. If the projector is not responsive to the remote, the remote may require new batteries, change the batteries. If unresolved  document and escalate so a helpdesk case can be created
Network connectivity issues Check the Ethernet connection, make sure it is firmly attached Verify if there is green link light If there is not a green link light try to disable and re-enable the local network connection  via start : control panel : network connections : right click on device and disable and then re-enable.
Network connectivity issues continued Acquire  the logon  password for SETUP from the I.T. office and logon to examine the IP configuration via start : run : cmd : ipconfig/all Try releasing and renewing IP settings via start : run : cmd : ipconfig/release  and then ipconfig/renew Ping a site to verify  connectivity via start : run : cmd : ping 208.67.222.222  If the ping is  successful it maybe a DNS issue. Ping a web address  www.google.com If Unresolved document and escalate so a helpdesk case can be created
